NFL opts not to hold second game in UK in 2010 Posted: January 24th, 2010 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: International Series, London London’s Wembley Stadium will host an NFL regular-season game between the Broncos and 49ers on Oct. 31. The BBC reports that another game in the United Kingdom was in the works for 2010, but plans fell through, so the NFL will stage only one contest outside North America next season. In a statement, the league cited the economy and the unsettled collective bargaining agreement as factors in the decision. “Playing one game in the UK is a significant investment,” the statement read. “Playing a second game is an even bigger investment. As we considered this, the uncertainty related to the ongoing CBA discussions linked to the current global economic climate were critical factors in our decision not to play a second game in the UK. Our ambition to bring a second game to the UK is as strong as ever. Once the current uncertainty is resolved, we will be in a strong position to bring multiple games to our UK fanbase.” |
