Default Republicans Hate bicycles

In Colorado more recently, Sen. Josh Penry says “[Gov] Bill Ritter’s ‘New Energy Economy’ now has a mascot: it is the bicycling politician who thinks we can peddle our way to energy independence, This is the most absurd, ridiculous and totally convincing explanation of why Colorado Democrats are clueless when it comes to addressing our energy crisis.” Rep Frank McNulty says “I’d like to see how they expect a mother of three in my district to get her kids to school and to buy groceries for her family using a bicycle.”

Yes and good for you and the hearty folk of that era however isn't it much better to have a means of conveyance to take you to the places you need on time and without exposing you to harsh elements? How about those gas guzzling city busses that can be used for mass evacuations during natural disasters? Hell how about your car/truck/SUV getting you to see your dying mother/father/sister/brother in the hospital? Or taking your injured buddy to the ER? No cars mean no ambulences and more death.

I appreciate what this gentleman is trying to do but in the end we NEED motor vehicles. If they ran on something other than fossil fuels than thats great, but until then I will not discount the good that has come of petrolium because it is hip be green. Hell I may just go out and buy a Hummer after I finish writing this. Cheers

I wonder how much energy we would save if we all biked to "Whole Paycheck" and spent all our money there.
