i think a lot of us expected this by now...

I'm told Martindale is 90-percent likely to get the DC job. No confirmation from Broncos however.

Not surprising really, I don't think Pees was going to change his mind about taking time off for health reasons.

This might be for the best anyhow. I loved seeing Coach Martindale coaching the LBs. He got guys like Doom and Hagan up to speed in a hurry... but then Ayers looked lost at times too so who knows. I think we're in pretty good hands either way.

Wait and see, after we've won our 2nd-3rd Superbowl in a row all these Assistants will be HC's throughout the NFL.

Source: Pees has something else lined up

So why are the Broncos suddenly in line to hire Wink Martindale's kid brother to run the defense in Denver?

Per a league source, top choice Dean Pees has agreed to coach elsewhere. Pees most recently served as defensive coordinator in New England.

We don't know where Pees will land, but we're working on it. Our source is being a little difficult.

Ugh..

Wish we could actually get like you know... a DC for the job. Of course, our DL has been so dominant, no wonders he is the frontrunner. /sigh

Martindale apparently escaped being named Raiders head coach...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3842703

(From last year)

Martindale, the Raiders linebackers coach since 2004, is something of a hot commodity around the league.
The Broncos and Browns would like to add him to their coaching staffs, and the Jets and Ravens are expected to make Martindale offers if, as many league sources and observers expect, the Jets name Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan as their head coach.

Also looks like he's been in line for a DC job for a while.

Martindale, 46, met with coach Josh McDaniels on Friday and has another meeting set up with the coach today. Ex-Patriots DC Dean Pees, 60, looked to be the early favorite, but he may now be leaning towards retirement. Martindale was passed over by the Raiders for the same position at this time last season.

I look forward to hearing Ellis and McD articulate why Martindale is the guy. I thought Ellis did a pretty convincing job of explaining the McD hire, I hope we get the treatment here.

I prefer Martindale to a guy who could drop dead on the sidelines.

Plus there is a glimmer of continuity(sp?) there because he was on staff.

So I think this puts this last drama to bed the best way possible.

Now the wheels just need to stay on and get through the Marshall situation and the Draft.

Martindale is a good choice, and the players' preference.

Of the two it sounds like Martindle would be the better choice. Prefer not getting a guy that has health problems and may affect his coaching time and end up leaving sooner then later.

Mystery persists regarding Pees landing spot
Posted by Mike Florio on January 23, 2010 6:06 PM ET

We're still trying to figure out the next move in the career path of former Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees.

By way of background, we're told he wasn't hired by the Broncos because he has another job lined up.

Though some speculation exists linking Pees to the defensive coordinator position in Buffalo, it's our understanding that the team that has hired Pees has not yet broken the news to the person who currently holds the job.

Since Buffalo doesn't have a defensive coordinator, that would presumably remove them from the mix.

Which means that there's someone out there -- presumably a defensive coordinator -- who is soon going to be getting something other than good news.

Meanwhile, we're told that Pees' departure had nothing to do with his health. "Something went wrong," a source with knowledge of the situation tells us.

And now something has gone wrong for the guy whose place Pees will be taking with another team.

As always, stay tuned.

Yeah it will be a good indication of how far we have fallen to see who Pees is passing us up for, I'm guessing it's a Canadian team.
