Him or Rex Ryan.

How many votes did Josh get?

I'm not sure why he deserved it. I guess because he led his team to the playoffs through a couple deaths that directly affected the organization. I don't really agree with that stance if it is the case.

Why did Ryan deserve it? Because he got lucky and his team backed into the playoffs thanks to some incredibly fortuitous scheduling?

Honestly, I think that Turner or Caldwell would be the most deserving in the AFC. I mean, the chargers were 8-8 last year and the colts had an opportunity at a perfect season that they chose not to take.

Funny thing is that OchoStinko says he deserved it for the "turn around." Wasnt last years team Lewis'? 8 years, cumulative 1 win over .500, and 0 playoff wins. Any other team would have fired him by now.

Sean Payton?

Saints Coach Sean Payton finished second in the Associated Press Coach of the Year voting to Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis.

Lewis won the award after guiding his team to the AFC North crown during a season marred by tragedy. The Bengals went 10-6 despite the deaths of star receiver Chris Henry and Vikki Zimmer, the wife of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

Lewis finished with 20 1/2 votes from a national panel of sports writers and broadcaster who cover the NFL.

Payton, who won the award in 2006 and whose team is the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, had 11 1/2 votes. Norv Turner of the San Diego Chargers had nine votes, followed by Jim Caldwell of Indianapolis (seven), Andy Reid of Philadelphia (one) and Ken Whisenhunt of Arizona (one).

Payton's Saints and Whisenhunt's Cardinals square off in a divisional round playoff game later today in the Superdome.

Lewis is the first Bengals coach to win the "Coach of the year" since Paul Brown.

Those are good points. And at what does Wade get some kudos? As we here in Denver know all too well, the best teams peak toward the end of the season ... something Dallas most definitely did.

I'm sorry, but coaching through the death of a coordinators wife and a player that wasn't contributing to the team doesn't make someone the coach of the year.

It's a great story, but it's not like it was his wife that died, or his starting quarterback. They wouldn't have even made the playoffs with that record last year.

Well, since it's coach of the year, not decade, I'm assuming the turnaround is what won him the award - this year.

I didn't expect it; I assumed Rex Ryan, the guy over in Indy, etc.

But for as much hate as the Bengals get, and yes, they did lay an egg in the playoffs, they swept their division which is pretty impressive to me.

I think Marvin Lewis is overrated as a head coach.

Sportswriters are obsessed with teams dealing with tragedy.

The Bengals going from 5-11 to AFC North Champs and beating out both Pittsburgh and Baltimore is a pretty impressive feat even though they faded down the stretch. The Steelers and Ravens were in the AFC Title Game last year.
