Default OT:Help with buying a new TV.

I'm looking at something that would be around 32inches-40 inches. Not sure about Plasma or LCD...but leaning towards LCD.

I've asked around, and some people seem skeptical about buying a TV at Wal-Mart because their customer service sucks . Best Buy always seems overpriced, and I don't trust the geek squad jagoffs.

So that being said, what do you guys/gals recommend?

Whats your price range? at 37-40 inches go with a 720p and save yourself some money. no need for 1080p until you hit 50 inches.LG makes a great panel.go to best buy and they will price match walmart then get an extended warranty.

I've got a 40' Samsung 1080p in the living room and a 32' Samsung 720p in the bedroom....I really like the depth of color in the Samsung's.

I picked up the 32' Samsung at Walmart for just a little over $400.

Go with a samsung LCD for sure.........the series 6 ones are the best.....better than the new 7's. If your going to be using it with a ps3 or bluray get the 1080, if its just gonna be for tv the 720 will be fine since almost nothing is broadcast in true 1080P

but seriously get the series 6 samsung, go to sams they always have them for a good price and offer a year worry free guarantee for free.

Good advice guys, right now I am leaning towards the Samsung 40 inch LCD tv.

I've read on the Yahoo! Answers site, that Samsung is a junk brand but only one person responded to the question of LCD tvs. So that person could be FOS.

Samsung is generally known as one of the best producers of LCD tvs.

You probably don't want plasma ... they have reflective front panels. So if there's any light, or even a window in your room, it will reflect.

Make sure it's 1080 (1080p or 1080i, doesn't really matter which), don't be taken in by 240hz refresh rate, it's not worth the extra money.

Me and Dortoh have 46" Samsung LCDs ... we love 'em

Is it true that plasma's are better for watching sports though?

I have a 40 inch Samsung and dropped about 1800 on it over a year ago. I would recommend scowering Craigs List as I see TVs like that for 400 or 500 now that are gently used. If you want brand spanking new I would go Samsung all the way.

My brother used to peddle TV's at Circuit City, LCD blurs more in action than Plasma. Contrast ratio is a biggie. Difference between whitest white and blackest black.

I have an older 1080P, but the picture quality on my new 720P is way better. He always thought 720P was about the same as 1080i.

I have had good luck in buying TV's for various resturants I've worked in when I can find them with "monitors" the lack of a tuner saved some bucks and is a useless feature as far as my uses have been concerened. If you can find one I'd go that route...who uses the built in tuner on a HDTV anyways? Comcast, Directv, DVD, Blue Ray, PS3, whatever don't have a need for one.

I bought a 52" 720P plasma from Best Buy a few months ago, it's an Insignia but the picture quality is pretty damn good...I don't see much if any difference from any more expensive TV I've seen. An LED TV and something brodcast in 1080P may be technically better, but not much to my eye. Contrast ratio is a biggie, other than that plasma is better for action. I couldn't justify another grand for something I couldn't tell much of a difference in.

This is what I just got. It's very nice. Go with Amazon. Free shipping, no taxes. Plasma is better than LCD. LCDs look plastic.

Negative. I have a 56'' and I could definitely go bigger.

Size matters a lot especially when rocking the Call of Duty, Sniping heads is a lot easier when they're 4 inches wide.

Realistically you're probably going to buy a new tv either way by the time they burn out.

Plasma's can burn in if left on for like a day or two straight on static, many of them have built in features to prevent that though.

Not any more. I suppose if you paused a game and left it there for a day you might have issues, but in normal use, no longer a problem.

Its the 2nd decade of the 21st century.

Screw the TV.

Instead spend your money on a good projector. Rig up a satellite tuner in your computer. Project high resolution images on a large white wall in your house. Hook up 7.1 config speakers around the room, and enjoy the ultimate in home entertainment. If you don't have a white wall, just get a large white screen to cover your wall.

I've never had any problems with my Panasonic Plasma. I've had some image retention, but no burn in. Once I change the channel, or after playing a video game any static image will go away pretty fast.
