In a 48-hour cycle, Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND), Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D-CO) and Michigan's Lt. Governor are all dropping/will be dropping their re-election bids for 2010.
In the case of the two Senators, their poll numbers are in the toilet and they think a generic Democrat, free of recent corruption charges and votes in support of ObamaCare will be easier to elect than the incumbents. Can't tell you what's behind Ritter's decision. There are rumors of Democrat internal polling which are so bad their campaigns refuse to discuss them. Meanwhile Nancy Pelosi denies C-SPAN (you know, that hard-core right wing channel that "smeared" Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) by showing him actually speaking on the Senate floor) the right to televise the conference committee marking up the health bill for a final vote in the House while telling reporters the process "couldn't be any more open". If this keeps up, the country might have "Majority Leader Franken" in the Senate. ![]() |

GOP chairman doubts Republicans can retake House
By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, Associated Press Writer Douglass K. Daniel, Associated Press Writer – 17 mins ago WASHINGTON – GOP Chairman Michael Steele thinks Republicans have "screwed up" for the most part in the years since Ronald Reagan was president. And, he adds in an interview on the heels of his new book's release, Republicans won't win back the House in fall elections and might not be ready to lead even if they do. That forecast of failure sparked a pushback Tuesday at the GOP's own National Republican Congressional Committee, whose aim is to elect Republicans, and delight at its counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Winning back the House would be difficult for Republicans, who are in a 256-178 minority with one vacancy. Steele's book, "Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda," released Monday by Regnery Publishing, offers his blueprint for the party's resurgence. Several of the steps he proposes play off sticking to GOP principles. Asked Monday by talk-show host Sean Hannity if Republicans can regain the House in November, Steele said, "Not this year." He added: "I don't know yet, because I don't know all the candidates yet. We still have some vacancies that need to get filled, but then the question we need to ask ourselves is, if we do that, are we ready?" Dodd screwed this country up big time. Hey LA, why dont you at least make a comment on that Dodd is losing any chance for a re-election chance given his horrible numbers. Republicans only need one Senator to break any filibustering and stop the bribes. I would love to hear how you feel about Nebraska getting all their medical paid on the backs of Californians and many other states. Face it, it happens most mid elections and this is no different. You and Roh talked like the Republicans and conservative movement was dead. If anyone can get it back going, it would be this congress and president. They are retiring or switching parties. Hell, Repubs got one without even an election.

If it was Dodd, et al, who "screwed this country up big time," then why did your party get destroyed in a landslide in '08?
Oh, I almost forgot: Acorn stole the election. ![]() |

you seem to always forget that I did not support Bush and didnt like most of his policies. Dodd screwed the banking loans with all his campaign funds from those that we needed protection from. He is part of the whole sub prime lending fiasco. You forget that?

I agree with Steele although maybe not for the reasons he thinks. The GOP won in 1994 on a very conservative platform - to balance the budget, to cut unnecessary spending, to enact term limits, etc. But then they got into power and became Democrat Lite, particularly in the Bush years.
A lot of people on the right felt betrayed. Many voters see that the Democrats running the country are killing the economy with high unemployment, high debt and heavy taxation but they also don't trust the Republicans to run the country either as they showed they weren't up to delivering their promises. When polls show more people identify with the Tea Party Movement than identify with the GOP, that tells you there's a lot of mistrust of both parties right now - and for good reason. But the abandonment by entrenched liberal Democrats of 2010 re-election bids is a clear signal that they don't think they can win. You can't spin that any other way. There's a very large and vocal "pox on both their houses" sentiment going throughout the country which is just begging to be heard and led by someone untainted by corruption-as-usual Washington ties. |

It's simply those democrats know they won't win and the DNC knows it too, so hoping to find a different democrat to run in their place. These "transparency" and "change" slogans presented by the democrats sounded great, but only their dullard followers really believed it and now just offer excuses for them of why they aren't following through on their promises.

![]() Only a right-wing dullard would spin it like you're doing here. It would be more accurate to say that the Dems are the clean-up crew who (as anyone with two brain cells to rub together expected) failed to fix in one year what it took Bush and the Corrupt Old Party eight years to completely destroy. |

Dems will lose maybe 4-5 seats in house. And IMO probably 2-3 in the senate. That should be just enough to stop the BS that is going on right now.

I agree with LABF though dems will still have power. They way they have to make backroom deals devoid of any repubus, IMO however, will hurt them the last 3 yrs of Obamas election.
I think Obamas plan is to push through the stuff no repubs will vote for now, then as he loses power shift to more national security stuff, a jobs bill repubs may go along with etc. It will all hinge in the end on the unemployment numbers, inflation, and how much progress he has made in Afghanistann. |

I just love the spin LA gives us every time he doesnt like a thread. Turns it around instead of actually answers the questions that is presented to him. Here is a scoop LA; Not all Democrats have to be liked. Stop being such a tool and actually think for yourself and stop acting like the police for the Dem party here. Dodd is a twit and his voters know it. That includes conservatives, moderates and liberals in his state. Join them in voicing your disapproval of him. It is totally ok to think individually here and express it. We will wait for you on the other side. |

We have a lot of ground to cover and I doubt it could be done in one election. He is speaking the truth. Anytime we have control of the presidency or one of the houses, we screw up and act like the Dems that later we chastise about spending. "We" as conservatives in the public dont think like that, but they sure change their spots once they get to DC. Our voices are being heard now, but we should have been protesting against our own then. Tea Parties are great (regardless of what LA and his crew think) protesting spending, but it could have also been used in the last decade. Sure we didnt have this mess of socialized medicine jamming down our throats, but it hasnt been the only thing we have been beatching about. In short time, conservatives need to stand up and not only fight for what they believe in, but admit their wrong doings in the past. 1994 was magical as they had a good platform with new politicians getting elected. Time to get rid of the old that didnt stand on the conservative principles when they acted like they did, and start anew. Steele needs to be preparing for that. Give him a chance. Admitting the wrongsis the first step.

The RNC chairman just rope a doppin it. By saying we are going to kick the dems in the ass he would help fire up there grassroot movements and base etc. By saying dems will win easy you can lul them into a false feeling of security.
