Default The 2005 Season ruined what coulda been a good thing

13-3, AFC championship home game. Shanny got re-crowned a genius of sorts prolonging any chance of him leaving for a few more years....

Gary Kubiak, Who for some reason avoided HC interviews and turned some down after the SB years (most likely cause bowlen was in his ear telling him he'll succeed shanny) decided to finally go it given the chance.

For some reason people cant see that Denver's annual playoff apearences ended with Kubes leaving. If it was really Shanny's O, Dinger woulda done something with it other then make Jake look worthless trying to throw from pocket.

Anyway, just wanted to b**** and moan but leave that current HC's name outta it. Kubiak is the real genius, not the guy here now, not shanny, not Jermey bates. Kubiak got it done. Look at houston.

Houston is sitting at home....just like us.

Kubiak also had Andre Johnson, Matt Schaub, Steve Slaton (to start the season) and a great young defense...and he still couldnt get to the dance. Sure, they play the Colts tough but they got crushed by the Jets early on and were just as inconsistent as us. Kubiak and SHanahan were great together, but combos like that are becoming rarer because with the coaching carousel the way it is, these assistant coaches get their shots every year. Don't be surprised if Kubiak's name comes up a few times as on the hot seat this offseason....hes been there for a handful of years. Our fan base cant even wait ONE year to get rid of somebody. Heck, some peopel didnt even give our guy ONE GAME.

I think that coaching TEAM was great. Dennison, Turner, Kubiak, Shanahan....it was a great combo.

Kubiak was waiting for the Houston Job all along. He and his wife are from there and it was his dream Job.

As for Kubiak being a Genius, did you see how awful that offense played against good defenses and in the playoffs? They were piss poor against the Colts, barely would have scored against the PATS @ home without 5 TO's and short fields, and were simply awful against PIT. So, while he has always been successful between the 20's in the regular season, the postseason has been another story altogether.

With Kube the team won, just like the ever improving texans do. and in the hardest division in NFL over last 10 years. not one of the poorer ones like the AFCW.

Kubes is sub .500 in HOU and HOU just had its first winning season ever by going 1 game over .500. He has never led HOU to the playoffs. Not sure where you are going with this.

that is only part of it after 2002 the NFL made sure this system a hell of a lot harder to pull off.

That Oline of theirs has problems. I hope Gibbs lets them get more talent in there...

looks like they will be having a hay day with our interior lineman soon enough...

Kubiak finally got the team to "just above mediocre", after several years. I reject the argument that Kubiak's a genius...

Kubes is probably going to lose Kyle Shanahan when the elder Shanahan takes his new job.

Some of the threads here are just funny.

I like Kubes a lot, but he wasn't next in line for the Broncos coaching job. There was no line. There was nobody being groomed for the job. Kubes was going to leave sooner or later. That's just the nature of the game.

Kubes is a good OC. Got tutored by Shanny.

The rest of your message is a fail. Shanny could win without Kubes. He had to rebuild the offense and defense. That takes time. He had his knees cut out from under him too early. We'll never know what would have happened, although I do tend to agree with the organization/Bowlen supporting Slowik leaving. Then again, he wasn't really given crap on defense to work with outside of Champ.

What do you mean, Shanny "wasn't really given crap on defense to work with..."?

Shanny was the GM!! (although not in title) He had final say on every player on the roster. His defensive free agent signings were atrocious....Dale Carter, IHOP, Cleveland retreads....the list goes on and on.

Good lord, you say this as if Shanny had no say in who he had on the defensive side of the ball.

Re-read and look at how the paragraph redirected. I was talking about slowik.

Shanny was GM, and yes, he had some questionable picks. He also had some unfortunate luck over the year as well... you can point to many examples, among them Al Wilson, John Mobley, Tory James, Deltha O'Neal, Bertrand Berry, Trevor Pryce, Paul Toviessi, Reggie Heyward, Darrent Williams and others along those lines. Between FA tying our hands, career ending injuries, death, or just jekyl and hyde play, Shanahan was caught in some difficult circumstances. Some of the damage was self-inflicted but other stuff was out of his control.

It's besides the point. My contention is he was rebuilding this franchise. He just got stubborn about his DC, Bowlen wanted something else and here we are.

Kubiak is good. Shanahan is great. We'll see what happens in the future.
