Default Modding a Wii?

Wondering if anyone has any experience in modding a Wii so I could play backups of games I buy my son in case he scratches them?

I don't know what modding means but I got a Wii for Christmas and my son in law told me he puts old and new games on it to play. Is that what you mean?

Modding usually means cracking open the case and installing a third party chip so that you can play copies of games or downloads.
