colts message board asked its fans to stop posting about the team quitting and its time to move forward. an indianapolis politician said the colts should refund everyones money who went to the game for quitting at halftime.

I don't like it, but the colts earned the right to play that game any way they like.

Imagine you paid $300 for two tickets in this economy and your team quit playing at halftime, then lost. It's a joke of the highest order.

Every season the top teams rest key players... this isn't anything new.

So, if you bought tickets early in the year because you fancy seeing the Jets game and now your team is 14 - 0 you just have to eat it or sell your tickets?

Well, i dont buy the argument about fans spending money (no one forced them to), this was a completely unique situation. Show me another team that rested its players during an undefeated season?

This was a complete copout. You rarely ever get opportunities to acheive greatness. Had the Colts finished an undefeated season, they'd be in the discussion for the greatest team ever. It would have been the shining acheivment in Mannings already illustrious career. You play to be the best!

Also, the injury thing is horse****, manning has never missed a game in his career. Also, its not even like they sat the entire game...they played most of it anyway!!!

And for those retards who suggest that losing a game takes pressure off, this is based on absolutely nothing. The reason the Pats lost to the giants had nothing to do with a 16-0 regular season. And the only other team that went into an SB undefeated won the damn thing. Also, this theory ignores all the 15-1 teams, 14-2 teams that haven't won a super bowl.

In short, they cheated themselves out of a chance at history. **** them.

Wah wah wah. Don't be mad because they handled their division and home field by week 14/15.

Denver could have done that. Instead they pissed down their legs going 2-7 down the stretch, not only losing the division but giving up rights to the playoffs in the process.

"The Colts are not interested in acheiving historic greatness by going undefeated in the regular season and the playoffs...All we want to do is beat the Chargers in the playoffs. Had we gone for a perfect season in route to a Super bowl victory, we would have forever been revered like the 1972 Dolphins. But we don't care about how history remembers us."
This is what gets me. Sure teams who have clinched rest players in the final weeks all the time (though I generally don't think it's a great strategy). What the Colts are doing, though, is saying a shot at historic greatness is not as important as maybe having fresher, healthier players in a few weeks (something Colts recent playoff history suggests usually backfires).

It makes no sense. As players and coaches in the NFL you have worked a lifetime to get to compete at the highest level. It is a game filled with enormous health risks every game, but every player in the league faces those risks for just the shot at doing something great like winning a Super Bowl. Now, faced with an opportunity many times greater than a mere Super Bowl (something every major figure on that team has already achieved), they decide it isn't worth the risk of 1 and a half more games of playing starters? I really don't get how people supposedly this competitive would choose to back down from such an amazing opportunity.

it's new in the sense that it's only been going on since the NFL became wussified. Lombardi, Grant, Landry, Madden, Noll, etc. didn't rest their starters and mail it in at the end of the season. what we've got now are head coaches afraid to fail. they are doing the safe, expected thing, so that nobody can blame them if things go wrong. its analogous to baseball, where most MLB managers pull their starter in the 7th to go to their bullpen (setup man, then closer) no matter how well the starter is doing. that's the safe move. even if the bullpen loses the game, the manager is off the hook, because that's now considered the smart, safe, by-the-book play. i think it's all BS. who says Manning is more likely to get injured in game 15 or 16 than he is in game 1 of the playoffs? i think these coaches are being too clever for their own good. Shanny was guilty of it too.

So far, in an informal poll of my local friends who are Pats fans, it's unanimous when presented with the following choice:

Option 1. Keep the 3 rings they have
Option 2. Give up 1 of the rings, but turn one of the others they keep into a 19-0 perfect season.

All have chosen door number 2.

The Colts are thin on the offensive side.

Manning, Wayne, or Clark going down would KILL them.

Caldwell was in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.

I knew apologists were going to be blaming Indy for not making the playoffs this year. Now we have two active threads whining about it. Predictable.

then why did they play like 34 minutes of the game? why play em at all if injury is what you fear? you can be injured doing anything at any time.

This is a big deal. Fans pay good money, GOOD money, ridiculous amounts of money to watch their team play. It would be one thing if tickets were 40-50 bucks, but they're not. They are hundreds and hundreds of dollars. They should be refunded.

I don't blame them for doing it. It's more important to get ready for the playoffs than some stupid record. Greatness is winning a championship, and that would achieve greatness if whether end up 19-0 or 17-2.
