Default Lex wants to talk about Popps' family

Be careful how you phrase such questions. Right now, TonyR is thinking that someone is asking who has the biggest gear. Its probably good to avoid that.

Dude, can you let one thread go without turning into a "pay attention to me" plea?

Good god.

Thats your whole existence. The minute someone says something that undermines your greater good, you feel like you have to get in front of it. You really have no traction here. You always swing and miss, though Im sure youll get satisfaction in your riff raff gang telling you contrary.

O.K. kid.

Someone creates a simple thread about finding gear in Denver, and you've got to **** on people and draw attention to yourself.

Carry on, loser... have at it.

Plenty, and they lead to a happy life... hence, I don't need to turn unrelated threads into "pay attention to me" pleas.

Oh gosh, let me guess... are you going to launch your attack on a toddler again?

Yea, you're a well-adjusted guy.

Like I said, Lex... go ahead cry for attention... go ahead...

Please leave other posters' family members out of the discussion. There's no need to even mention them at all.

He's a sad guy, Blue. He's got nothing else in his life.

He's been banned for it in the past, which tells you all you need to know about him.

I'm sure he'd puff all of this kind of nonsense in someone's face. Seems like a brave guy, attacking precious children from the safety of his computer.

Thats rather selective involvement. Im not violating the rules though. The other issue is that if youre speaking from a "greater good" standpoint, there are other items at issue, which have been presented. Again, this is rather selective of you.

Ideally, the discussion should be kept to the topic at hand... arguing the merits of one's debate position. Unfortunately it does often go into the realm of "you're an (insert unflattering noun here) for thinking that"... That's to be expected. But taking any insults beyond the other poster... on to their loved ones... should never happen. Period.

You wanna insult Popps for an opinion he typed on an internet forum? Have at it.... that's between you and him. Or ignore him if you don't like his opinions. Leave innocent , uninvolved individuals out of it though.

Here's the thing, Blue...

As any parent around here knows, children are off-limits. It's the kind of thing that leads to real-world violence.

It surprises me that the policy around here (which I have really respected and adhered to in the past) seems to have shifted to it being O.K. to comment on the well-being or lack thereof of someone's children.

Lex knows he wouldn't try that in person. Most people wouldn't. It's a good way to get yourself in serious trouble.

To allow that kind of thing to foster on your message board is a real lapse in judgment, in my opinion.

As a site that's already been involved in legal issues, I'm just surprised that the policy isn't cut and dry. It seemed that it used to be.

Now, it seems clear that it's O.K. to instigate people by using their children as bait.
Just a very odd policy for a site that in the past has had a clear, level-headed view on that kind of thing. I'm not sure why the policy seems to be shifting.

My personal thought is that the ad hominem attack is lame to begin with. If the debate can't stand on its own merit, then all it means when one party or the other resorts to a personal attack (IMHO) is that the poster cannot support his argument and is losing thus seeks to distract other readers from that fact.

Lex is treading a very fine line here... what he's posted comes across as totally classless but technically he hasn't crossed the line. Yet. But he's very, very close.

Again, there was no violation of rules here. This is just you going rogue. But as an aside, I agree his the party youre alluding to is innocent. Thats the tragedy where Popps is concerned. Its hard to say that Popps posting habits dont involve others too.

That sad thing is a person who has a desire to attack a child, or even involve an innocent child in an attack on an adult. I can't imagine the void in someone's life where they need to resort to those tactics.

It's amazing to me that a person does this, is warned about it, and then turns to insulting the moderator.

Who needs to insult a toddler that badly? It's sad and will eventually lead to real trouble for the site, imo.

Just my opinion.

It's not a difficult concept to embrace, Lex. Criticize Popps' opinion... or even Popps himself if that's your thing (although that's kinda dumb since you probably do not know him at all and thus will likely be wrong) but leave his wife and his kids and his parents and his aunts, uncles and cousins out of it. They have nothing whatsoever to do with the discussion at hand and do not reinforce your argument.

And at this point in time, I'm merely expressing an opinion like everyone else here. If I have to go into "mod mode".... you'll know it.

Mod mode requires enforcing the rules, no? Thats where you have a problem.

I have no problems, Lex. It's not me who's "going personal" here (you might try checking the mirror). I've told you (as a fellow poster on this forum) that I find your mentioning of Popps' loved ones to be "unseemly" and very close to a violation of the Orange Mane's rules.

"Close to" is your problem.

BTW, for all the insults that get slung on this board, its kind of laughable that someone cant be called out as a neglectful parent based on their posting habits, especially when it doesnt insult the child/offspring.

I cant believe this turned into a pissing match. Lex, you are wrong but what you posted (and I quoted) is nothing serious, Popps. I think you read his post incorrectly. Amazing how such innocent, non-political thread can turn into suck ****. Thank God the good suggestions were laid out before the pissing match hit.

How is it a "problem" that I'm (as a fellow poster; not in "mod mode") stating that I strongly disapprove of your choice to derail threads by commenting on another poster's family in any way shape or form? I have the right to form and express that opinion.

And what's it to you how many posts/how much time another person spends here? Or anywhere online? Are you the self-appointed lifestyle police? Who cares?
