Default Denver Broncos Team Store can’t Keep Socks in Stock

The Denver Broncos could not have guessed that this season’s hot product would be one of the ugliest sports socks ever created, the brown-and-yellow, vertically striped leggings that the team wore a half-century ago. That does not seem to bother Tim Kellond, who runs the Broncos’ team store in Denver. Kellond has sold more than 1,800 pairs of the high socks at $14.95 and receives about 250 calls a week from customers asking when more will arrive from the manufacturer who, he said, has run out of brown yarn. “I thought I ordered a whole lot that would last until next year,” Kellond said. “My problem is deliveries. I get them in and sell them out in two hours.” The socks have been an unexpected hit for the Broncos and the N.F.L., which is near the end of its season-long 50th-anniversary celebration of the American Football League. – NY Times

Sales of throwback goods are a small slice of the $3 billion worth of N.F.L. merchandise sold annually, but they are proving to be the biggest sellers this year.

I guess we can expect more "throwback" years to come. The NFL never passes up on a chance to rake in some dough.

I saw an EBAY auction that was up to 100 for a pair.

The real question is this: if there is a work stoppage, does everything technically become "throwback"?

I still can't find the gray throwback hoodie Josh was wearing for a few weeks. The Broncos' online pro shop sucks boughs of holly.

You and McBleed are crazy. The $14.95 price is about the same for a snuggie. I think people buy it almost like a gag gift. Come on people, those things are but ugly. But go ahead and water your chia pet while wearing your snuggie and throwback socks before cutting into that scrumptious fruit cake....all gifts given to you as a joke.

You guys want to know the real reason why there is a shortage of these socks? I just pulled this from the "How cool were the socks" thread posted after the Pats game:

The throwback craze has been going around American sports in recent years, NHL has been doing it for a few years.

I'm waiting for them to have each player wearing a different uni.

I like the old throwback uni's and the socks. I like the way the players would be creative with the socks and make them checkered and give them a barber pole swirl.

ech...the orange pants are not my fave, but I would be open to seeing the Broncos don the uni's we wore in the 80's & 90's for a couple games.

FYI, both the home and away socks were back in stock today, but I assume they will be sold out by the end of the game tomorrow. If you are heading to the game and interested in getting a pair make you way to the team store tomorrow.

Me too, then again though, I never liked the current blue uni's.

The socks are okay, my biggest regret is not getting a personalized piss yellow throwback when I had the chance.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see they are back in stock
