Anyone who has been following the Hillis thread may have seen the discussion of an odd scouting report. Long story short, we found quite a treasure trove of info on our draftees from 2008. Here is the discussion thread so you can see what's going on here...
Taco John: The interesting thing about that unbiased scouting report that you're referencing... I can't find a single reference to either the company, or a similar scouting report from that same company anywhere else on the internet. It's difficult to believe that somebody would just "make it up." But I can't determine the legitimacy of their report to compare against what they've said about anyone else - say perhaps Cutler. It's difficult to put too much stock in that scouting report when I can't even find the company that is listed on the report anywhere on the Internet. It's like they don't exist. It's really wierd. Taco John: I did manage to find a report for Earl Bennett and Jermichael Finley. But that's it. I was hoping to see what they might have said on Cutler. That would be interesting. For those interested here is what Google found for the search term "HRT Report wonderlic" BigPlayShay: Here is a more refined search limited to just the site www.hrd-rtp.com Much more results with that query. Ironically, here is a report on Cory "Cooked Crack" Boyd which rates him above average at an 8 Taco John: Great sleuthing! Hmmm... Unless I'm mistaken, they've only got players from the 2008 season. Unfortunately, they didn't have anything for Clady... But here is Eddie Royal Here is Kory Litchstenstieger Here is Jack Williams Here is Ryan Torain Here is Carlton Powell Here is Spencer Larsen Here is Josh Barrett ...and of course Peyton Hillis What a find! |

Very cool - I can't believe those are still available... The Hillis one was found a month or two ago.
The thing that jumped out at me is the difference between Hillis' report and the others. All of the others were mostly positive. I am a big fan, and I hope he comes around (with the Broncos or someone else)... However, it really does make you wonder if he has some issues with coaching and the mental side of the game. Maybe when things don't go his way, he keeps spiraling downward. |

The one that I found most interesting was the Eddie Royal one, where he was rated a 5 overall, with a 2 out of 10 in mental quickness.

Good stuff.
Hard to say what this stuff was used for. It sure seems more like company type stuff than public consumption info. It's not written in a way that would seem to translate for the average net browser. |

It looks to me like they might have been hired by the Giants (whoever HRT reports are - seems like a single year fly by night operation, maybe a scout who developed a ratings system and landed a contract or something). It's definitely very interesting stuff. |

Wow, Barrett's was a lot more encouraging than I was expecting, I was under the impression he had some shortcomings upstairs.

The site was put up by Orbik, so it looks like an online data storage device. I still can't find who wrote the reports or why they exist at this point. Of course anyone can speculate...

Nah, it's easy to say. The reports focus only on how receptive the player is to coaching, and how likely they are to listen and apply what they're taught More interesting, they discuss the player's personal confidence, how he will interact with teammates, and how how he'll respond to obstacles and setbacks associated with game prep and studying.
Also interesting is that none of the reports include 40-times, bench-press numbers, or stats of any kind. They don't even include height and weight. |
