What do you know, Shanahan made a good personel move in letting Elam go and signing Prater for a lot less - at the time it seemed so wrong.

Well, Elam could no longer kick the ball into the endzone and he was struggling with FG's so it was inevitable! Good career and he is where he wants to be. Thanks Jason for all the years as a Bronco.

He's built enough goodwill to get another look or two. His chances to move up to challenge Morten Andersen, Gary Anderson, Matt Stover and John Carney for the 1-4 spots in career FGs is in serious jeopardy though.

With John Carney, Gary Anderson and Morten Andersen setting the standard for kickers by playing for 20-plus years, I think Jason Elam's long-shot chances to get into the HOF are close to nil now.

Unless he comes back strong next year (not impossible) he is never getting in the HOF. He is too far away from the point lead and with only 2 SBs he is not getting in on post season accolades when Vinatieri could be on his way out in the next few years with his clutch kicking and 4 superbowl wins.

Stenerud was a six-time Pro Bowler and a one-time All-Pro. Elam was selected to three Pro Bowls and was never a first-team All-Pro.

Like Lou "The Toe" Groza in the trenches, Blanda's quarterback play enhanced his credentials as a kicker.

All I can have for Elam is respect and gratitude. He was a big part of those Lombardis.

He was money for us for a long time.

I agree wholeheartedly. Since Strenrud retired, Morten and Vinatieri are probably the two most likely candidates to sniff Canton. Elam is in the Gary Anderson-Nick Lowery group that will always be mentioned as the NFL's all-time great kickers, but won't ever get serious consideration as in making it to the semifinalist list.

Does he get ring of fame consideration? I think so. His records as a Bronco seem to be pretty safe for a while.

Absolutely. Jim Turner brought the Broncos nine years of service and he's in the Ring.

This was my first thought, too. Prater has been looking real good... Nice work, Mike!

That sucks....Elam is 17 points away from 2000 career points....which very few kickers have reached.

Morten Andersen, Gary Anderson, and John Carney have 2000+ points, as does George Blanda (with TDs added in).

Elam's NFL record of 16 straight 100+ point seasons will also probably end.

Bah, I wish I wasn't kicked out of that bar where I used to get in arguements with the guy why Elam wasnt worth paying whatever millions he wanted anymore. He was a ********** and a seahawks fan.

Speaking of kickers...(has that phrase ever started a sentence before?)

I think Jason Hanson in Detroit is one who has quietly had a stellar career. Quietly, for obvious reasons. But dude's right behind Elam on the career points list (180 points) and played for the Lions his whole career.
