I figured that it would be a good idea to post a thread to discuss some of the match-ups to watch versus Washington.
1)Denver Interior line vs. Albert Haynesworth: Haynesworth has a huge amount of talent, but has underachieved this season, especially when playing the run. The interior of our line hasn't played up to par the past few games (especially versus Baltimore) but had been decent in pass protection. The run blocking hasn't been up to previous season's standards, but that's to be expected with the shift from zone-blocking to man-blocking. 2)Moreno/Buckhalter vs. Washington LB's: Washington has allowed a large number of long runs so far this season, and has been their defensive Achilles heel. Aside from the past two games, the Broncos have been been decent at rushing, but severely lacking in long runs. 3)Denver Passrush vs. Jason Campbell: The Redskins lead the league in sacks given up, and while their O-line hasn't been spectacular, the largest portion of the blame goes to Campbell,. On the other side The Broncos have gotten to the quarterback better than any season in the past decade. Mike Nolan's use of exotic blitzing has allowed Dumervil and Co. to get to the quarterback 26 times so far this season. If these two trends continue, this will be a huge advantage for Denver. So, which match-up will be most important for determining the game? |

IMO, it is easily about the interior OL. If they get their lunch handed to them, then the overall offense could be anemic (again). However, even if that is the case, the offense can still probably score enough (~10) and the D will add another score.

I dont think Haynesworth can change the game on his own. He does make this defense better and many dont realize it because of their horrible offense. This game is based on a combination than one aspect. This game needs to be played clean on offense (before the last two) and give us a little yards on the ground to keep their D in check. Our defense doesnt need to worry about their running game as much with Portis out so if they continue to play like they have for the majority of the season, they should hold them under 14 points. There is the key. Positive field position should help get this team well over 14 points and the win.

The Skins have a good defensive line, good LB's, and a decent secondary. They need to exploit the secondary's propensity to take bad angles to the guy with the ball. The offensive line is a mess, if they can bring 4 and create pressure, they will win the game. |

Our defense will do its thing. It's all up to the interior line to allow a little bit of a running game to form.
