I'm afraid this thread will have a negative vibe to it, which I don't want. I just want to understand this.
It seemed to me that before the season began people were calling for Orton's head and wishing that Simms would take his place. I always thought that was a bad idea, because I thought Orton was/is a much stronger QB than Simms. What was the reasoning behind this? Now that we're here at 6-0 the Orton-haters have dropped off quite a bit, even from when we were 4-0 and they were arguing that Orton couldn't win us a game from behind. Whats the current feeling on Orton and do people still want Simms to be our starter? |

Simms is a complete unknown. Those who wanted Simms to start over Orton basically said this because of Orton's lousy pre-season. I was one of the posters who said that I'd have no problem bringing Simms in IF Orton struggled.
Face it, Simms is still a complete unknown. For all we know, Simms IS the best QB on the team. But as long as Orton is winning and the team chemistry is good, then there's no way we will ever know. Give props to Orton. He's getting better as the season progresses and he is a good leader on this offense. As for Simms, he is gonna have to wait. Only an injury to Orton will allow him to step on the field. Even if Simms plays well in Orton's obsence there's no reason to believe that McD will pull a Tom Brady and keep Simms in when Orton comes back... |

Simms is not an unknown. He sucked in college and he's sucked in the pros. It would be nice if everybody (cough cough cum-guzzler broncobuff) could stop pretending that he's some sort of unknown quantity who could be an immense talent if just given the chance. He's a fine backup, probably about as good as Patrick Ramsey or David Carr, and that's it.

If BroncoBuff says this is a silly thread, then it's definitely a silly thread.

Um, yah. I think I'll trust McD's judgement over yours. Thanks for playing. |

Umm yea, he was signed to backup Cutler, and was paid 6 million for two years, hardly a "good chunk of change" and pretty standard for a backup QB. Thanks for playing, better luck next time. |

I posed an honest question that you don't want to answer. I said why did you and do you still want Simms over Neckbeard? And your reply is? |

As much as it pains to say it, I'd stick with Orton over Simms at this point. Simply because Orton right now is a product of the system. He's further along into learning the system, and he's being coached magnificent by McDaniels
Orton has removed a couple of doubts, and one of them is that he can actually make some pretty nice throws when he stays within the system and game plan |

I have learned my lesson, not to second-guess McDaniel's but if we are doing "what if", I have wondered how Matt Cassell would have played knowing the offence inside and out and not needing a learning curve........

Kyle Orton is one of the top 3 or 4 quarterbacks in the league this year. not only should we not bench him, we should do anything and everything we can to keep him healthy so we can keep winning ![]() |

It was stupid and based on Simms rolling out and throwing over a corner back who was cut from the Niners in a preseason game for a touchdown. Suddenly Simms was "the answer" and everyone hated Orton after one preseason game against scrubs.
Idiots. |

![]() You're selling him short though, way short. He had 4 possessions against SF, 3 of them we scored, and the 4th McKinley dropped an easy 3rd down pass. And as far as doing it against scrubs, he was playing with scrubs too CHRIS SIMMS FAN CLUB!! ... who's with me?! ![]() |

He holds the ball too long and lacks any accuracy after about 20 yards. Has he ever legitimately won a starting job in the NFL?

I still don't think Orton is the future, but it would be beyond idiotic to put in Simms over him at this point with how well the team is doing currently.

You have to ask yourself why don't you think he's not the future? He's young enough, smart enough, a good leader, more accurate the most QB's, careful with the ball and since that glove has come off, there is some pretty good zip on his balls. There is NOTHING right now to enforce your position that he could not be the future QB. |
