QUICKLY:

* The Broncos have been one of the NFL’s best teams in the second half this year, outscoring opponents 59-7 (+52) while posting a 1,158-501 (+657) advantage in total yardage (includes overtime numbers).
* Head Coach Josh McDaniels is the sixth rookie head coach in the Super Bowl era (since 1966) to begin his coaching career with a 5-0 record.

OFFENSE:

* Denver has posted five touchdown drives of at least 80 yards this year, including two 90-yard TD drives in last week’s 20-17 overtime win against New England. The club covered 98 yards on 12 plays for WR Brandon Marshall’s 11-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
* QB Kyle Orton is 8-1 in his previous nine starts dating back to last year, and his 26-12 (.684) record as a starter ranks third in the NFL among active quarterbacks.

DEFENSE:

* Led by long-time NFL defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, the Broncos lead the NFL in scoring defense (8.6 ppg.) and are giving up the second fewest yards per game (252.8) in the league. Denver has allowed opponents to convert only 2-of-30 (6.7%) third-down attempts in the second half.
* CB Champ Bailey, who was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Wk. 4, leads all NFL cornerbacks with 44 interceptions since he entered the league in 1999.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

* K Matt Prater, who was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September, kicked the first game-winning field goal of his three-year career with a 41-yard make in overtime against the Patriots last week.
* S Darcel McBath, a rookie from Texas Tech, is tied with veteran ILB Mario Haggan for the team lead with five special-teams tackles.

“All Ready”- Darrent Williams

"A disaster, A complete disaster, probably the worst loss of my career. I think what made it bad was I couldn't really do a whole lot. I messed up my elbow on the second play of the game, so that was frustrating, and to go through that for four quarters and stand on the sideline at the end because I couldn't go anymore. A blowout like that, it just kills you." – Champ Bailey on the 52-21 Loss to SD

"I did not have to say anything. Just coming in here and trying to do what we could do to put the best football team in September, that is all we did. I have no idea how much better we are in terms of comparing from last year. I really wasn't a part of that team, and we have changed it so dramatically since then. We are two different teams, I would venture to say."–Josh McDaniels

"This is a different team. I wasn't here, obviously. I can obviously feel the pain in my teammates for those that went through it, but this is a completely different team. Our focus completely is on the fact that this is a division game, a rival game, a tough environment (we are) going into and trying to correct mistakes we made in this past game in order for us to have a chance of pulling out a victory down there." –Brian Dawkins

"You want to establish dominance inside the division, for sure. Hopefully, that is on a year-to-year basis, but we are thinking about this game and really not thinking of all the implications. We just know it's a division road game for us and it is going to be tough." -Kyle Orton

Go **** yourself San Diego.

More clarification on his injury...

The Chargers woke up this morning only to see the words of General Manager A.J. Smith in the local newspapers calling their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers "embarrassing". Smith also said that the team has looked "bewildered and soft."

"That's an opinion of a person, and it's not needed", said Merriman who had to be treated for sand in his mangina by trainers and will be listed as probable for Monday Nights game.

Broncos 27
Chargers 20

Broncos control the clock by having the ball for 41 minutes and the Broncos hold off a late push by the Chargers for a 7 point win.

That makes me laugh!
Statistically we used to be the "best 1st quarter scoring team in the NFL", and this year, we are the best scoring team in the second half!

So I am pretty concerned about this game tonight. The smell of last year's massive defeat still haunts my olfactory system.

I still believe that when the Chuggers turn it on they can go. What is our primary concern in this game? Stopping the pass?

Broncos IMO will try and bring some creative blitz packages whose main goal will be to make Chargers tweak there gameplan to protect Rivers. Either by having to go 2 TE, or having to leave a RB in to block, Or Gates having to stay back and block more often then he would like.

Against Pats I felt the Broncos figured the TE and RB's aren't what we need to worry about and didn't bring as much pressure as they could have. I think they figured since pats like to get WR all over the field it was better to have lot's of defenders in coverage.

On 3rd downs if Sproles has to block that would be a huge advantage and win for Broncos gameplan, IMO.

Weather the first quarter storm. They are going to come out fired up - this is a must win game for them. Keep the game close early and their confidence will begin to erode. When they have beaten us in recent years, they have gotten up big in the first half. We need to possess the ball to keep Rivers from getting into a rhythm and can not commit turnovers.

I don't get the sense that Mcdaniels scrips the first 20 plays quite the same way Shanny emphasised that.

Mcdaniels seems to have the early plays more to see what adjustments he wants to make to attack, while shanny wanted his script to be a well oiled drive. It worked quite well for Shanny but like you said he was better in 1st quarter then last usually.

Win or close loss... either will diminish the memories from last year's meltdown. At least for me.
