Default Javon Walker news

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_13581275
Walker out of Raiders' plans and would welcome a trade

ALAMEDA, Calif. Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker said he is open to being traded, if that's what the team feels is in its best interests.

The league trade deadline is Tuesday afternoon. Raiders coach Tom Cable said the team is exploring possibilities, but that nothing is imminent.

Walker has been inactive for four of Oakland's five games. He played four snaps against the Chiefs on Sept. 20 but did not have any passes thrown his way.

Walker, a former Broncos receiver, spent all of the offseason and most of training camp rehabilitating his right ankle and the left knee on which he had surgery in April. He said he is 100 percent healthy.

However, Cable wants to develop rookie receivers Darrius Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy. Cable has said he doesn't want to mess with a rotation that has included Todd Watkins and Johnnie Lee Higgins.

The expected return of Chaz Schilens on Sunday against the Eagles makes it less likely for Walker to receive playing time any time soon.

Nice buy, Al. Nice buy.

It's still mind boggling that Walker tried to retire and offered to give back his signing bonus and everything...And Davis refused.

****ing mind blowing.

I could see him getting traded except for the small detail that he sucks now and isnt worth a roster spot

But other than that hes good

Remember when he was good for one year? I still remember @ the Pats, him making a nice catch and BIG run for a score. Also, the Pittsburgh play.

Yeah, it's still weird to see a #27 out on the field. So sad.

Raiders' Javon Walker Set to Retire; Al Davis Talks Him Out Of It

Interesting story from Raiders camp: WR Javon Walker was set to retire last Thursday but owner Al Davis talked him out of it.

Walker was so unhappy about his performance during training camp that he stated he was willing to give the Raiders back his $11 million signing bonus.

This comes a few months after Walker was allegedly abducted, assaulted and robbed in Las Vegas. He suffered "significant injuries" to his face, was concussed and left for dead in the street. He was also in the car that teammate Darrent Williams was shot and killed in last year.

I can see why Walker has a lot on his mind and you can see why he may be under-performing during camp. Oakland did sign him to a six-year deal worth $55 million ... so they are expecting him to be a big part of the team. And, while it it is always easy to be critical of Al Davis, it is quite commendable that he reached out to Walker to keep him on the football field.

Al does stuff like this from time to time. Quite a noble gesture.

Does Chicago send them a 7th rounder, or do they wait until he's released.

Can't help but to feel sorry for the guy. D-WILL's Death, getting beaten the crap out of you while in vegas, not performing in camp, knee injuries, it's been quite a downhill ride for him. Nobody deserves to go through all this regardless of what they have done.

Let's not underestimate the horror of watching a buddy bleed to death while you can do nothing to save him.

Davis apparently hates his investor group and is determined to distribute their money at any cost .

Ahhhhhhh, yes. Denver at Pittsburgh, probably one of the best days among all of my football pilgrimages!

Sitting in the north stands surrounded by Steeler fans (including my wife), talking smack with the locals!

The cherry though, was watching Javon execute that "end around" for a 50+ yard TD!
As the stands emptied, I was still among a sea of Steeler fans, ... "Who wants to high-5 a WINNER ... Anyone? ..."

Davis got $150 million from an investment group, two years ago, then immediately started handing out huge contracts to Javon & co.

I thought at the time that the investment group must have pissed him off during the negotiations based upon the way Davis was throwing their cash around in huge chunks.

Of course, I will always think the worst of any Raider's transaction.

The money paid raised a lot of eyebrows.

http://pacific.bizjournals.com/sanjo...26/story8.html
Quote:
While the club has a rich history and reputation, the price surprised some in finance because the team in recent years has played to weak crowds and struggled on the field. The team's president, Amy Trask, also said the limited partnership stake includes no option to buy the team when Davis, 78, dies.

"If there was no right to match or right of first offer [to a takeover], I think that valuation for a nonvoting [limited partnership] interest was very high," said one of the financial sources, who requested anonymity because he had been briefed on the subject by an NFL owner. "If those rights were available to the investors, it strikes me as still being a bit high, but understandable given that it may be very difficult for Davis' heirs to hang on to the business upon his passing."
Another snippet this time from Forbes:

Quote:
But it is highly unlikely the three Wall Streeters will sit by idly while the Raiders continue to be one of the NFL's biggest debacles.

And it was Hester during the '06 season when he was taking kicks back on what seemed to be a weekly basis.

There's been like 3 or 4 guys who were "the pick" if they hadn't traded it for Walker.

I still think they would have taken Marshall, it seems like the Broncos had wanted a big WR, because the rumor (again) was that Vincent Jackson was who they wanted with the pick they used for Paymah in '05, but the Bolts reached (at the time) and took him late 2nd.
