Wow! How many times over the last few years have we allowed 3rd down conversion after 3rd down conversion? Certainly a great change.

last year in close situations I was thinking, man please just milk the clock so they don't get the ball again

this year I am thinking, it's ok to give them the ball again...we got this

just think about how we did the Pats....we gave them not just a second life, but a THIRD life on the same drive and made them essentially punt every time

no way on this planet last year's defense does that....that defensive stand alone sold me, truly amazing

I agree. The last few games, I've had no problem with the offense punting the ball because it's just another opportunity to watch some real nasty, hard nosed defensive football.

I can't wait till guys like Alphonso Smith and Ayers really start to turn it on. Especially Ayers. If he translate his physical talent into production then it's going to be a whole lot of misery for opposing QBs.

That drive by the Pats that was extended twice on 4th downs because of crippled ST play was just amazing to watch. Each time I thought the defense would be winded and let down, but each time they just stepped up and got it done as if to say "We can do this all day long."

I remember so many times the last few years, on 3rd downs, Bronco DB's playing so far off of receivers, all it took was a simple down and out type of pattern to the sideline and easy 1st down or a short slant pattern and wondering how that is considered good defense?

That was one of the gutsy accomplishments so far this season and hardly any of the sports channels are even mentioning it. Shows just how much they cater to the casual fans.

Last 4 seasons that had been the case.

According to an article in San Diego:

Denver held Oakland, Dallas and New England without a third-down conversion in the second half, becoming the first team in the NFL since the 1992 Cowboys to hold three consecutive opponents without a third-down conversion in the final two quarters.

Counting Matt Prater's overtime field goal to beat the New England Patriots last Sunday, the Broncos have demolished their five opponents by a combined 59-7 after halftime.

Particularly given that we were manhandled in the 2nd half of nearly every game last year. Even the games we won were fast starts followed by a steady decline as the other team adjusted and we just sat there and watched.

This defense is turning into something special. After the first few weeks the stats showed that the D was playing great, but that was just after a few weeks, so it was hard to say that the D was really special. But five games is a good chunk of the season, and they've shut down some good QBs. Brady, Palmer, and Romo (who is overrated, but he can light it up). It's starting to look like they can keep this up for the entire season. If they did that, this D would rank up there with the best ever over a single season.

This is the first DC that can make effective half-time adjustments in Denver for even longer than I care remember...

Impressive.

Rivers will put up more than 10 in the second half.

You dont follow the mane too closely obviously. We all know Rivers will put up 10 each quarter. You were talking 10 TD's right? 280-3, you know Pareter is going to kick a last second field goal.

Great stat but I seem to recall two 4th down punting situations where we gave NE the ball back because of stupid penalties. If we tighten up special teams....LOOK OUT!
