What's taking Saddam out have to do with Nation Building? That's just a stupid term that really doesn't say much.

Saddam became uncontrollable and was flaunting his defiance. He shot at planes etc etc. He invaded Kuwait, he paid terrorists and bragged about it. It was only a matter of time before we tangled with him.

I do agree though we are spending too much money on this crap its time to reign it in.

As far as living with ourselves for supporting the troops and hoping they could win war I won't be apologizing.

You don't see me asking the left how they can sleep at nigh supporting killing babies do you? It's because people have different beliefs and morals and you only have to answer to yourself.

I happen to know several Iraqis that say almost everyone happy Saddam is gone, hates America, can't wait for us to be gone.

Soon they will have all of that.

What we are currently doing in Iraq is called "nation building". We have established permanent bases in Iraq. We just built a 104 acre embassy that cost over a billion dollars. We are propping up another government, forcing our will upon all Iraqi people.

They call it nation building, but it's really all about resources. What they call it means little to me. When one term gets publicity they change it. For example cap and trade becomes energy investment credits, and using the military to secure resources becomes Nation Building.

Whatever.

No I don't know anyone who died in the war.

Just because someone supported removing Saddam doesn't mean you don't care troops died. It also doesn't mean you want your country doing it over and over.

Also out whole govt, congress included seemed gung ho to go to Iraq and kick ass. When it all went down I don't even remember debating it much with people.

Whatever reasons, lies, bad intell, whatever it seemed the reaql debate started during the insurgency when the casualties started raking up.

Had we debated that on this board at the time I probably could have been on the side that said this war may not be a good idea. But honestly by the time I can remember really thinking a whole lot about it we were already there. At that point I can't support pulling out and leaving it the mess it was.

Thats why I supported the surge, and I also support getting most of the troops out of there ASAP. It won't be getting any better then it is right now.

I admit, I used to think us being there would be a good thing. Fortunately, I've come to the realization that no matter how long we stay, you can't force a people to be free. You can only give them so much help. THEY have to want it. For that reason, I hope for my friends (actual friends) to come home ASAP

Didn't your momma teach you any manners? I wasn't down on your grammar. I was just advising not to get so worked up about it.
