New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady discussed the upcoming game against the Denver Broncos at his weekly press conference today. He called the game a "tough test for us," adding that the Broncos are a "well-rounded" and "well-coached" team.
Not surprised by the success of Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, Brady described his former quarterbacks coach as "so well prepared and so diligent." He went on to talk about McDaniels' passion for coaching, how he started out working with the Pats defense, then used that to their advantage on the offense.
Brady continued to speak about Broncos powerful defense, including Champ Bailey, calling him "one of the very best in the history of the league playing at cornerback."
When asked about the so-called "Brady Rule," which prohibits a defender from "forcibly hitting in the knee area or below a passer who has one or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee," he didn't elaborate much, just stated that they do not make the rules, only follow them. Brady did however mention that the Patriots were fortunate to get a few good calls in last week's win over the Baltimore Ravens. He went on to say that he likes to be friendly with the referees, hugging them and asking about their families before the games.
Moving on to the team's offense, Brady discussed how this is a new Patriots team with different roles for veteran and new players. They are each working in their own way to improve and, like many other teams, have not reached their peak.
The Denver Broncos host the New England Patriots this Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Invesco Field. CBS will air the game with kickoff at 4:15 p.m. EST.
