Default Would we would be getting respect if....

Stokley hadn't been under that tipped ball in Cincinati?

Let me start of by saying that I really don't care if we get respect from the media or the public.

Think about this though. Had he not caught that ball we'd still have the #1 defense in the NFL and boast a 2-1 record. Cincy would be 3-0 while beating what's precieved by the media to be two very good teams in GB and Pit.

The comments from the media then may read somthing like this.

"At 2-1 Denver has yet to beat a top tier team but came very close to beating the 3-0 Bengals"

"At 2-1 Denver is a dangerous team with a solid defense, they nearly shut out the Bengals that put up 20+ points on the Steelers"

Instead we get this.

"Denver was incredibly lucky to win the Cincy game and have played nobodys since then"

I have to say.....I love it!

Please ESPN/SI/NBC/Showtime/NFLN/CBS/FOX please make sure you keep people asleep on my 2009 Broncos.

Interesting. And you're probably right.

I doubt it. The two wins would still be against the two worst teams in the NFL. (With apologies to the Chiefs and Rams)

It just seems like we might have got more respect for narrowly losing to a 3-0 team than luckily beating them.

Interesting post.

What I dont understand is that its not as if the Broncos were completely dominated by Cincy and only won on a fluke play.

In fact Denver shutout Cincy's high powered offense for more than 59 minutes and were driving for the game icing field goal, when 2 phantom holding calls stalled the drive.

In fact, if Cincy had beaten us, THEY would have been the lucky team that afternoon.

That's not a fair statement. The Cowboys are in the western US.

Yes, but the loss would be a very close one to a 3-0 team. We wouldn't necessarily be getting a lot of respect but we'd be getting less disrespect.

Yea, i don't get how we were the lucky team. We just had a lucky break that just happened to happen with almost no time on the clock when all was said and done. If that play happens in the 2nd quarter i wonder what they'd be saying?!

Forget about Fox, Espn, NFLN.

There are Bronco fans here who don't even respect what the 2005 team did and have labeled it a failure simply because they hated Jake. Some people just don't view football as a team sport.

Based on that this team would have to win the SB to earn respect from those people.

i hate hearing about everyone claiming we should have lost to Cinci in week 1. it wasn't like we were manhandled and beaten all day long only to win on a last second fluke play. we outplayed them that day, our defense stomped all over them, and regardless of how it ended, it was a game we should have won.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens (who are ranked #1 by almost everyone) have beaten the following teams:

Kansas City 38-24
San Diego 31-26
Cleveland 34-3

Hardly a juggernaut schedule. I'm content to fly under the radar and let everyone underrate us for now.

I forgot the KC offense did that to them.

Probably not. We have a rookie head coach. A disrespected QB. We lost our other QB. Our best WR in turmoil.

The KC offense didnt.

Technically speaking, KC scored 17 points on offense but 1 TD was a pick-near-six that was taken down to within the 10. The other missing 7 points was a blocked punt recovered in teh end zone.

KC really only put up 10 points offensively without the huge turnover giving them an extreme short field.

Fact is the Jets are really the only 3-0 team to have played good competition in the Patriots and Titans (despite the fact that they are 0-3, I dont think anyone believes they are a bad team) and I forget who else they played...buffalo?

We don't deserve respect. We've won 3 games against questionable teams. Let them underrate us.

I don't think it would make any difference.

Many, many sportswriters and analysts went on record, before the season began, to state that Denver would flat-out suck or stink on their way to a guaranteed top ten draft pick (that they'd already traded to the Seahawks.)

That kind of impression doesn't change over night. Even if Denver had out and out clobbered an "elite" team on opening day, most of these guys would still have looked at it as an aberration, an off-day for the opponent, or more indicative of something wrong with the loser than something right with the winner - - especially if a lot of the win is attributable to defensive play - - which isn't nearly as sexy on the highlight clips.

Ya, but they play in the NFC East, so close enough.
