So, at the top of Drudge at the moment you have the open rooting against the United States to get the Olympic games and for Rio.
Headlines such as: "CHICAGOLAND: Another boy critically beaten: 'Blood all over street'..." "Will tepid support derail city's chances?" and... "Rio goes on offensive..." Go Rio? Then in the splash portion you have the DOW "tumble". Nevermind that the DOW has had a record shattering 6-month stretch, this is the first time in 6 months he chose to feature it. Go tumble? You have Rush wishing ''failure'' on the President of the United States. You have Congressmen shouting ''you lie'' during a joint session, or proclaiming the POTUS the ''enemy of humanity'' You have Glenn Beck proclaiming every God damn thing, including the POTUS hates white people and pretending to murder of the Speaker of the House. You have Chuck Norris saying to alter the flag. You have a major conservative publication suggesting a military coup. You have one hateful thing after another against the President, the Presidency, and this country. I get it. You love yourself and your ideals and hate this country. F_ck You. |

I don't understand why anyone would be upset about lobbying for the Olympics. I think Obama should be pimping several locations besides Chicago, but either way it would be a good thing

Well if you ask people in CHicago they don't want the Olympics. Therefore I think give it to RIO.
Chicago broke and most olympics just cost you money. Besides Rio a funner place to visit. Who wants to travel to Chicago? the place is a ****hole. |

I don't see any reason for Obama to even care about something like this other then to maybe make a phone call or 2.
Now the first lady, seems like that is perfect for a spouse of the President. Still though I doubt CHicagos ability to pay enough money to make it work. RIO will be getting help from the Brazilian govt. They will probably spend more then Chicago will. Like I said before, what would be more fun? Hearing we will be landing shortly in Chicago, or we will be landing soon in sunny Rio? Slam Dunk Rio is more fun. |

It seems to me that the majority of the people of Chicago don't want it. Hosting these events are EXPENSIVE and, lets be honest, the venues are going to be spread out as far away as Milwaukee Wi. The main stadium will be in Chicago for sure but most of the rest will be in the outlying areas. Tokyo has the same problem as far as venue location goes.
San Francisco could've been a decent location but the voters said no. Too bad, it would've gotten the stick rebuilt and they do have almost all of Treasure Island, Alameda Naval Air Station and the Presidio to work with plus they are already a tourist and convention city so there are tons of accommodations. Rio has some severe problems raising funds but the cost of labor is much cheaper there so overall it will cost less to provide the venues but that same lower wage issue also means less income to tax to pay for it. IIRC South America has never hosted the games (Mexico is not in South America) so it does deserve a chance. Regardless, after Beijing anyone will look smaller compared to the shows that they put on. They had unlimited resources to draw upon as far as manpower goes. |

The point being that the Murdoch attack machine is going to find something to attack Obama on every single day. They're just carrying on the Rove policy: Let no day go by without at least one public attack on the opposition. Hell, they launched one of their most vicious attacks on him when he gave a boiler-plate speech to school kids. If he pets his dog, they'll attack him for that. If they find out what he had for lunch, they'll attack him for that. It doesn't really matter.

Detroit would be perfect for the OLympics.
You can tear down whatever you need to, especially the old ford and GM plants to make way for stadium, hospitality and the olympic village, they are right on the river and lake for sailing and rowing events and nobody lives there anyone to get upset about all the construction. |

You're beginning to sound like Palin: "Support our troops, buy my book!"Actually, General McChrystal was "on business" in London and flew over to Copenhagen and had a meeting with Obama on AF1. You'd be surprised what they can do with electronics these days. They even have radio on AF1! What will they think of next? ![]() Anyway, having spent some time in the Army myself, I'll bet there are plenty of troops interested in where the Olympics are. Especially the ones who live in Chicago and have family members looking for work. You wouldn't believe this, but even way back when, when I was in the Army, they let us watch TV and everything. Here's another Republican leader picking his party over country:
Conservative commentator Bill Bennett certainly didn't endear himself to the residents of Chicago during a recent appearance on CNN's "The Situation Room." Asked for his thoughts about President Obama going to Copenhagen to personally lobby for Chicago as the sight of the 2016 Olympics, Bennett said that he was actually rooting for Rio, Brazil: "I'm actually for Rio. In Rio, it's beautiful women at the beach, and in Chicago, it's fat people eating." Bennett (not the slimmest man on television) saw one silver lining in Obama's trip: "He is going to have to say some really very positive things about the United States while abroad, which is not something he has been doing." Read more at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/1..._n_307131.html Yeah, Bill. Let's send all those jobs and all that money to Brazil. **** America. Here's Bill making fun of the fatasses in Chicago: Last edited by Rohirrim; 10-02-2009 at 08:32 AM.. |

My only beef with Obama on this issue is it seems to me that he's got a lot of other issues he needs to be focusing on right now. Why does he need to spend tax payer's money to fly to Copenhaugen to promote Chicago for the Olympics?
Doesn't he have other pressing issues to resolve? |

We can only submit one city for consideration. The bid for 2012 was New York, which lost to London. You have to focus on one city because you have to make fairly specific proposals in terms of venues locations and logistics. Through an earlier process Chicago was chosen as the US nominee and after that was chosen as one of the final four.

Regardless of who is President I just feel RIO a better choice then Chicago. Chicago having budget shortfalls and Olympics are costly.
RIO has the Brazalian govt flush with new oil revenue to spend on the games. Also Chicago losgistically is a bad city. It's like LA, spread out without all the venues needed close enough together to make it work well. Obviously people agreed Chicago didn't even make final cut. RIO will be a great choice. Hell I might even pick up my cousin who lives in Costa Rica and head for RIO to see some Olympics. Going to RIO for Olympics sounds really fun to me. Going to Chicago? well I do like all there blues and jazz clubs, but not as fun IMO. |
