Where WAS the Outrage? Bush 'Katrina Kids' brainwashed by 1st Lady

At the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, children from the stricken Gulf Coast region serenaded First Lady Laura Bush with a song praising the beleaguered Federal Emergency Management Agency.

To the tune of Hey Look Me Over, about 100 young children from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama sang:

Our country’s stood beside us
People have sent us aid.
Katrina could not stop us, our hopes will never fade.
Congress, Bush and FEMA
People across our land
Together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand!

After the song, Mrs. Bush posed for photos with the kids, many of whom were wearing Katrina Kids T-shirts, despite the chilly rain.

Earlier, the First Lady read Will You Be My Friend: A Bunny and Bird Story by Nancy Tafuri. According to a White House pool report, the children sat on the grass as Mrs. Bush read; she sat in a white wrought iron chair, freshly toweled by two Park Service employees.

After the reading, Mr. Bush asked, Did you like this book? Does it tell you about what people can do to help other people, what bird did to help bunny? Be kind to him and give him shelter.

Yeah, I remember Bush's response to Katrina: "Now stand back and watch this drive."

Of course the big difference between this and the Beck/Hannity hysteria over the kids singing about Obama is that Obama had absolutely nothing to do with that teacher's choices. On this one in the OP, members of the Bush administration were involved.

read the article (of course the link doesn't work..), and notice the obvious differences. first, this was at the white house. these kids were brought there voluntarily and with their parents' permission. THAT certainly can be called propaganda, of sorts. the obama song was a a public school where parents were not notified and kids had no choice to attend and participate, according to parents of the kids. THAT is indoctrination.

second, the obama song was glory and praise to ONE GUY. The Bush song was a thank you to a NATION, which includes the Commander in Chief. One among many is much different than One among One.

third, making the argument that Bush did it too, is passe and unconvincing anymore. the argument has run dry. i'll say what i always say to those who use this woefully inadequate argument--raise your standards. bush was a marginal president, so why do you hold your savior to marginal standards that you railed on for 8 years? assess the event objectively, not in the context of what a past president did in a similar, but wholly different event and time.

fourth, let's be honest. bush, congress and FEMA all get poor marks for the disaster relief overall, so the song to bush, congress and FEMA is simply wrong in its sentiment. by the same token, if bush, congress, and fema hadn't provided what response they did, the situation could've been even more catastrophic--like, 3rd world catastrophic, given that Nagin and Blanco shrugged their shoulders.

finally, for my part, i find both creepy in similar but different ways. do i think the obama fiasco was orchestrated by the WH? No. Do I think it's part of some vast left wing conspiracy to brainwash kids? No. Do i find it objectionable, nonetheless? Yes. Political slantings of this sort at a public school are inappropriate. Was the Bush thing orchestrated by the WH? Organized, yes. Orchestrated with intent to brainwash kids? No.

By the way, there's plenty of squawking over the Bush song by libs posted all over the net, so why would you expect any less from the other side? expression of opinion is a valued freedom whether you're a Dem or Repub or Other. would you give that freedom to one side but not the other?

Wrong, wrong and wrong. The song lyrics were sent home with the kids prior to the performance and the parents signed off on it:

Everett Mitchell, executive editor of the Cherry Hill Post-Courier, told Fox's Greta Van Susteren that "no parents objected to [the song] prior to the assembly, during the assembly or after the assembly."

Mitchell told On the Record with Greta Van Susteren that parents were sent the lyrics of the song in advance, as is standard procedure with performances of this sort, and that no one voiced any concerns about it. He noted the performance took place in February, shortly after the inauguration of the 44th president, when Obama's popularity ratings were riding high.

Now, thanks to the way that the Fox hysteria machine is flaming this story, the principal is getting death threats and the school has been locked down with police guards. Fair and balanced.

The only reason it is an issue is because Fox got a hold of it and simply folded it into their daily Obama attack schedule. I particularly liked Tucker Carlson comparing it to the Khmer Rouge. The innocence of the whole thing is besides the point. Everything is fodder for Murdoch's hate machine. This one will go away and there will be another right behind it. The reason the Laura Bush story is posted is because these kinds of things happen all the time, and have probably been going on back to Washington. But now we have Fox, and that has made all the difference.

As usual the hypocritical right beat their chest and when confronted of similar actions they turn into giant vaginas.
