Default Official Trade Evaluation - Week 1

I know trade evaluations can take several years until they really show who ended up ahead, but I thought we should start tracking how we do week by week.

As we all know, Cutler and a 5th (who ended up being Johnny Knox) was traded for Kyle Orton and 2 firsts (who ended up being Robert Ayers and Alphonso Smith) and a 3rd (Richard Quinn). I thought it might be useful to track the trade as the weeks progress.

Here is the first official Trade Evaluation - Week 1

Jay Cutler - 17/36 0TD 47.2% COMP 4 INT QB Rating: 43.2
Johnny Knox - 2 REC, 82 yards
Bears 0-1

Kyle Orton - 17/28 1TD 68% COMP 0 INT QB Rating:100.7 rating
Robert Ayers 0 tackles
Richard Quinn 0 receptions
Broncos: 1-0

Alphonso Smith wasn't part of the Cutler trade. The Broncos traded their own 2010 first rounder for the pick that was used to select Smith.

Ah you're right...ok I'll edit...even though I don't think they would have made the Smith trade without the extra 1st rounder.

Yeah, but close enough really. We don't know/didn't know where the picks will fall, so what's the difference?

No, not really. You're making an assumption based on what they might or might not have done under different circumstances. If you're going to evaluate a trade, you evaluate it based on the assets exchanged in that trade.

Besides, all I've heard since April is that Smith was a top 10 talent that the Broncos coaching staff was in love with, so who's to say they don't make that deal anyway? No one knows for sure either way, so it seems only right to me to stick with just the hard facts of the case.

top 10 talent? The only people saying that are the idiots saying the Broncos would have a top 10 pick months before the season started.

The FO had him rated as a 1ST round talent, which is quite a bit different than a top 10, which they could have had with eithe rthe 12th or 18th pick without trading...

No, I mean the people who've been vehemently defending that trade have been hyping up Smith's stock to the point where some have gone as far as to call him a borderline top ten talent.

Either way, it's a moot point. If you want to include him in the package, go for it. I don't see how he's a part of the Cutler deal, but it's your thread. Have at it.

1. No one is doing that, other than the idiots proclaiming denver traded a #1 pick.

2. I edited it...so what's your problem?

1. Denver did trade a #1 pick. Their own #1 pick, which has nothing to do with the Cutler deal.

2. I don't have a problem, sport. I think you're taking this a lot more seriously than I am.

I only care about it as far as bears losing games. Then we get a better pick.

Once this season over I will be through with following what happens in Chicago.

Just like I never check to see what portis did anymore.

Agreed. Once that pick is settled and cashed in, Cutler and the Bears are no longer relevant until 2011 when they come to town for a regular season matchup.

Even then they are only relevant for about 3 hours.

Quite frankly, Im not a draft guru so they are irrelevant now.
