Usually the two you think of most are Auburn and USC, but are they? Which school has produced better RBs at the pro level (I say at the pro level and not NFL because you have guys like Herschel Walker playing for the Generals)?

BTW, thats not a comprehensive list of all RBs from the above schools. Its just a list of the more prominent ones that I could think of.

"The U" has clearly dominated if you are talking recent history.

I wonder what those numbers will look like in 10 years because USC has like 5 RBs who have pro potential right now.

i don't think so, half of the total yardage of USC came from 2 guys who haven't played in more than 20 years. there are no current elite backs from USC, so i don't consider them to be that great.

Miami has the most backs that are currently in the NFL that have reached elite status in the last few years. Edge, Gore, Portis, and McGahee has been good when not injured.

Miami is the current Tailback U

i am having a hard time buying a lot of these programs as top Tailback producing colleges.
i have always considered a college with the nickname of Linebacker U or Tailback U as a school that continually almost annually churns out another good back, and a lot of these schools listed have either guys who were awesome years ago and no one current, or only have 2 or 3 guys on the list.

Miami, Auburn and USC are the only schools on the list with current decent RBs and Miami is the only school with multiple backs that have at one point in the last decade reached elite status.

I think Georgia is winning the poll just because of TD. While he was a great one, USC boasts Marcus Allen and OJ Simpson...

Winner - USC...

Graig Cooper looks very nice for the U. I think he will be a great change of pace back, return man, and quality receiver out of the backfield. I think with the current run of Miami running backs it's hard to argue that they aren't the running back factory of today. Are they the top producer of all time? No, but currently they are.

You two need to talk. If Bush and White arent all that, then you really have to go back a long time to find a USC RB.

Having said that, for me its between Florida, Auburn, Miami, and USC. Bo Jackson was probably the best RB Ive seen aside from maybe Barry Sanders even though he didnt have the best career. Im going to have to go with Florida though. Going back to Neal Anderson's time with the Bears, Florida has always had someone decent between Anderson, Smith, and Taylor, with Smith being the all time leading rusher. That and they have the most yards of teams on the list.

I would ranke them:

1. UF
2. Auburn
3. Miami
4. USC

Even though Miami has a lot of good runners, much of them were at Miami at the same time so the notion of consistency is in question.

Billy Sims was awesome but since Billy Sims, who has been a producer in the pros for OU? Marcus Dupree was a great runner but he had an injury and wasnt the same. Beyond that, who? Mike Pruitt?

Yeah, Adrian Peterson is awesome but look at the original post and the data that was compiled. Do you really think AD and Billy Sims stack up against what was posted? Billy Sims and AD, who is in his third year, is what youre lobbying for? Billy Sims has 5,106 career yards. Maybe one day Peterson and Sims might compare with Watters and Bettis but Peterson has a lot of work ahead of him.
