Default Where are they now? The 2008 Broncos Defense Edition

Did anybody notice that....

John Engleberger
Dewayne Robertson
Ebenezer Ekuban
Nate Webster
Jamie Winborn
Marlon McRee
Boss Bailey
Vernon Fox
Calvin Lowry
Heranza Daze Jones
Tim Crowder

all remain unsigned by any team?

Is it any wonder why the defense was so bad last year? Everyone on this list was a starter (at one point) and now they are all out of work.

Nate Webster?!?!?!??! But he loses his helmet and dances after 7 yard gains at a pro bowl level! His intensity is unmatched!

Le Shock!

I thought this was going to be a thread where I could reference Bobby Humphrey and Ricky Robbins.

That is quite the list. Remember having to talk yourself into believing they were just a couple of players away from dominance.

Hopefully, this is a more solid all-around D this year and there isnt such a huge turnover from can't-play-in-the-league-no-more to solid-for-a-couple-more-years.

Hopefully these rookies on D really step up bigtime, it's needed. All of the rookies, actually, not just the D rookies.

It was obvious we werent just a player away from a Superbowl

The defense needed to be gutted, and Shanny had no clue what he was doing

Then again Slowik killed all their careers by allowing them to get owned with his kindergarten schemes

I bet the gameplans on defense were written in crayon

See, we were going to build a defense later.

You didn't hear?

All part of the plan.

Looks like Winborn was one of the Falcons final cuts. Sort of surprised he didn't catch on as a back-up/ST player somewhere. He had his moments.

pretty bad team that shanny and co assembled. Most starters for a team wouldn't just end their careers, they'd be a backup, starter on another team. I remember the game when we had calvin lowry and barrett starting for safeties...that had to be the worse safties in the history of the nfl.

my sister lives in phoenix and had a beer w/John Engleberger a few weeks back. I guess his girlfriend is friends w/my sisters. Get this, I guess he dresses like a complete slob, and he still lives with his parents in virginia. haha, he is to cheap to get his own place. He is apparently retiring, but I thought it was funny to hear about him.

Reading that makes me feel better about this year and all the changes. An overhaul had to be made. We really had a terrible defense, like expansion team bad.
