Default Hillis Impact

Any thoughts or predictions on Hillis' impact? It seems to me that he can have a huge impact on the Broncos offense in blocking, running and receiving, but it all depends on how many touches he is given. I could see 500 yards, 6+ touchdowns and 40 receptions as a realistic season line.

Also for fantasy purposes is he worth a start in deep leagues with the flex position?

I'm not sold on Moreno's durability at this point, so I believe the Hillis will be our starter before too long.

I think he's going to be heavily utilized in this offense. He offers matchup nightmares for opposing defenses. I think he'll catch a lot of balls out of the backfield, and will be on the field in just about every red zone package the Broncos trot out.

A Laresn/Hillis short yardage package will be fun to watch.

We know he can toke the pill, I want to see him more in the passing game.

really because Hillis has those concerns as well. He plays very physical and takes a ton of contact.

IMO giving him more then 150 carries would be a bad idea.

He's not a McDaniels guy, so he'll be a bit player unless injury forces him to the forefront

I think we will see something similar to the way the preseason games have gone, at least for the first few games. Buckhalter to start but look for a lot of quick passes to get the defense on their toes. A few carries go to Buckhalter. By the start of the 2nd quarter, I think you will see Hillis being featured more then Buckhalter and Moreno will get reps too. I eventually see Moreno taking over for Bucky by 3rd or 4th game and Bucky will be the one to get a carry here or there. I think Hillis will keep the same role. Mr. Combo. Will get 12 carries a game, about 5 or 6 balls thrown his way.

So why did we spend our first pick on Moreno?

There is sooo few NFL power backs over the age of 30 that can pound the football up the gut for no yards quite like Jordan. We are sooo lucky to have him on the roster.

Those are realistic numbers. I wouldn't start him though as a flex. He would be to unpredictable. You would be better off with Knowshow

It all depends on whether Mcdaniels has half a brain or not. If he wants to create matchup problems then Hillis will be on the field in several formations. If he knows talent, then Hillis won't sit behind Buckhalter and/or Jordon for very long. I know those are very big "if's" for a 33yr old kid...but we shall see.

In terms of durability and Hillis...I don't think he had any problems at Ark...and he didn't have any problems throughout training camp...so, I'm certainly not worried about that.

Hopefully Knowshon is the real deal and Hillis can be a special role player.

Didn't McD trade Hillis a while back?

IAS.....I would start PH in a 16 yeam league as a flex. He's good for 1TD, 30+ rush yards and 20+ Rec.

Well, from where I sit, what I see unfolding is this:

Josh knows that he will need several backs throughout the entire season. Moreno is a rookie coming off of an injury with 0 games under his belt. Hillis is only in his 2nd year. I think Josh clearly realizes those are the 2 best backs he has but he knows he will need an enthusiastic Buckhalter to take some of the load throughout the season. He doesn't want to disgruntle Buckhalter early by throwing him at the end of the bench. He wants to get him into game early to get him involved. That's the way the preseason has gone really. He's been in there to start things out but Hillis has often gone in for more duty time. I think in due time Moreno and Hillis will be getting most of the work but for now I think it's a good thing not to rush Moreno back from the injury.

That's my take anyway.

Explain...

What can't he do:

Run between the tackles?

Run stretch plays?

Catch the ball?

Pass block?

I love Hillis, and think he can do all those things (though lack of speed makes him more of a chain mover than a big play threat IMHO). I think the concern is that he can't stay healthy if he is in every down for a full season. I don't agree, I think we just had horrible luck at RB with injuries last year, but I can see why the concern would exist.

I'm not too worried about his durability. This is one move, where it was McDaniels fault.

Moreno was "late" to camp, and they just threw him in a game. he didn't get his timing down, etc - and he got hurt. It happens all the time to guys who are late and get thrown into a game....and it's a point of irritation for me with mcdaniels.

That his first injury unless you count a deep thigh bruise his junior year.

That's including starting and playing special teams.

So, I'm not sure durability is a concern whatsoever.

I don't mind that at all.

He's a grown man, not a china doll. They're not going to slowly him into how he gets hit in practice either.
