He was horrible in Dallas' 3-4 defense last year. PASS.

One of the smartest players in the league, in terms of football IQ. But he can't run anymore, he was terrible in Dallas and he couldn't even make the Chiefs roster. No thanks.

Andra Davis is a very stout run defender. You don't want him covering receivers any more than he had to, but he's a tough mofo and is probably an overall better ILB than DJ Williams. He's just not as flashy.

The problem with DJ Williams is, you see his "athleticism" when he's chasing down a ball carrier near the sidelines, but no commentator ever talks about him being incapable of taking on a blocker or diagnosing a running play properly. Dude has been in the league for years and he's still just guessing. We should have traded him to a 4-3 team where he could play his natural position. Thankfully, he IS athletic, and that and that alone keeps him from being a real liability out there.

I think DJ is looking a lot better. He may be overrated by the board, but probably not as lame as you say he is. I agree though he too often tries to run around a block. Sometimes you just have to fight for your spot of the field. It's called the point of attack and you can't just avoid it and be a good inside linebacker.

You have to be willing to run full speed into a blocker and let the peices fall were they may. Sometimes doing that is what allows a safety to come up and make a play on a ball carrier.

What he said...

Additionally, who does he take a roster spot from?

Davis... Nope
DJ.... Nope
Larsen... Nope (especially with his special teams and FB duties)
Woodyard... Nope

Give me Derrick Brooks after what he showed in NO.

... lets get Kevin Carter too.

We'll be a defense filled with aged all-pro's lol.

(pass on Zach though)

I still don't understand why we just can't move him to the SOLB position. His natural position.

Larsen at SILB and Williams at SOLB > Williams at SILB and Hagan at SOLB

Thomas's days are done as a starter and since he has never played special teams, being a backup would mean probably rarely active for games, so I don't see the point in signing him.
