Default Vic Lombardi: "I'm told Marshall is starting to see the light"

-Vic Lombardi "I'm told Marshall is starting to see the light"

Why The Broncos Won't Trade Brandon Marshall

I know a lot of Bronco fans clamoring for a Brandon Marshall trade. And reports out of New York suggest they might even have a willing partner in the New York Jets. Marshall for a 1st round pick.

Well I'm here to tell you not happening. Not this year.

Here's why: If the Broncos hold onto him this season and no collective bargaining agreement is reached, Marshall would automatically become a restricted free agent, which allows the Broncos to control his rights.

If the owners and union do indeed reach a labor agreement, Marshall could qualify as an "unrestricted" free agent, allowing him to go as he pleases. If that's the case, the Broncos could simply slap a franchise tag on him. And the going rate for a franchise receiver (according to several agents) is a 1st and 3rd round pick, minimum.

So why would the Broncos bite at the Jets offer? Just a 1st-rounder? Why not just hold onto Marshall for the season and then collect a 1st AND a 3rd at the end of the year? It doesn't make sense to trade him now, unless of course some desperate team makes the Broncos an offer they can't refuse. Are the Jets that desperate? Doubtful.

Also, I'm told Marshall is starting to see the light. (I know, I know, we've heard this before). But this is different. Earlier this week, Marshall extended an olive branch to Rod Smith. He's seeking Rod's help again. He's actually listening this time. Rod and Brandon have been working out together this week, working on the body AND the mind. That's great news for B-Marsh. He needs guidance in his life. And nobody can fill that role better than Rod Smith.

1) If Lombardi is just figuring out that the Broncos have all the leverage then I don't know what to tell him.

2) I will believe Brandon when I see it happen on the field and not out of his mouth.

3) Rod Smith should be on the Broncos payroll. WR coach. Motivational Speaker. Team Chaplain. Something.

I have heard shanahan tried to get smith to be a coach and smith told him that he needed a few years off and then would think about it. I would love for him to be part of the team again.

I could really see Rod joining Shanny next year where ever he goes. That is more likely than him coming here to coach.

i agree with that, but i would settle for him being just a guy who is an advisor to any young guy on the team, not just receivers, a guy who shows up at practice a few times a week, maybe the occasional home game. i know he isn't interested in coaching or the long hours associated with it, but i don't think he would be opposed to a few hours a week

I think Rod has more than proven his allegiance is to the Broncos, not Shanahan.

Let's hope 'the light' wasn't wrapped in another McDonald's bag.

I second the 'show me, don't tell me' sentiment. Be a good citizen off the field, and a pro bowl receiver and teammate on the field.

as much as I would like to see him on the team, it isn't going to happen. This subject has come up several times over the years.

Interesting trades will be considered for Brandon Marshall, especially if you are willing to part with a head coach not born in the 80's. However at this point, a cash for clunkers deal could probably be worked out. If interested in this Brandon Marshall, please call 303) 270-9718, email dmckee1041@aol.com, or even text 47195 to leave a comment about this particular model of Brandon Marshall. Happy shopping and caveat emptor!

It really blows me away the Marshall just now "sees the light".

His choices are very simple.

1) Make a few million playing football this year. If he does well he'll make even more millions next year via the Broncos or another team.
2) Do more of the same, get suspended, and have jack ****.

With this economy he can set himself and his entire family up for generations to come if he plays his cards right over the next few years.

I don't know if this is an omen but my framed picture of Rod's Jersey fell off the wall this morning and into my Martin guitar.

No damage that I can find but it pissed me off.
