Dealers Still Waiting For Clunker Cash
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Auto makers will release their monthly sales reports Tuesday and they're expected to show the first year-to-year increase since 2007. While the Cash for Clunkers program is getting all the credit, local car dealers are still waiting for their cash. During the month long program, Billion Automotive sold close to a thousand vehicles but has only been reimbursed for 272 of them. Vern Eide sold over 200 cars and has only been paid for 27 of them, and that's fueling lots of concerns in the auto industry. Billion Automotive cashed in during Cash for Clunkers, but owner Dave Billion is still waiting for the rest of his money from the government run program, $3.2 million. "I wonder how long they'd wait if I owed them $3.2 million. I think they'd be at my door or at least my banker's door," Billion said. Even though Billion is beginning to get some of his reimbursement money, he's still concerned because he says there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the program. When Cash for Clunkers was first announced, dealers were supposed to be reimbursed within 10 days of a sale. Billion says that hasn't happened. "The program started in July and we haven't gotten paid for cars we sold back then, but then on the other hand we got paid for a car we sold last week. They don't have an accurate format. It's not like they're taking the first deals that were submitted and working those. I don't know how they're doing it, no idea. I know it's very random" Billion said. Plus, he's had problems getting some vehicles qualified. "We had a situation where we had a submission, they rejected it for multiple reasons. We didn't see anything wrong with it, so we resubmitted it. They rejected, we resubmitted it. They rejected it, seven times and finally they paid it, and we never changed a single thing on it," Billion said. But Billion thinks he'll get his money eventually, it just may take longer than what the government first said. http://www.keloland.com/NewsDetail6162.cfm?Id=89419 |

Damn! You're right! We better disband the military forces of the U.S. too! We don't want the gummint running them. Oh yeah, police and fire too. Better put a stop to that. And highways. If only we would turn over everything to private corporations, we'd all be so much better off. The free market will fix everything...the free market will fix everything...the free market will fix everything...the free......

You guys are killing yourselves. Government can't keep it's promises and it can't keep it's time line. Not a big deal on that road that needs to be repaved. Healthcare? Not so much. Who do we appeal to when the Government is the other end of the contract? The answer is no one. We need reform...but we don't need a government take over.

the reason its on the comedy channel is because the argument that the right spews is so asnine that it produces instant laughs.the two programs are not even close to being the same. Some jackass on faux news spews it and you parrots instantly use it.good grief indeed.

I think you are just a little upset that people don't agree with you. As old as you are you shouldn't expect it. You need to better manage your expectations. Last edited by Garcia Bronco; 09-01-2009 at 01:08 PM.. |

The real bozos watch the comedy channel thinking they are getting legit political talking points. Yes, those political science experts work at the comedy channel. I think MTV has a few too.

Listen, folks. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there is no such thing as a perfect system. There is no utopia. I don't care if you are talking about government, health care or private enterprise. But we can act on basic premises. Should our basic economic system be capitalism? Sure. It gives the most people the best chance to make their own way in life. Should it be a laissez faire system? Of course not. There are greedy bastards whose goal in life is to take over everything for themselves (if you need examples find a history book).
Should our health care system be "for profit?" No. Not totally. A "for profit" system operates for the enrichment of shareholders and officers of corporations. There are many things we operate which serve us the best but don't make a profit. Collectively we pay for all kinds of museums (art, science, history) museums that couldn't stay open on their own. But as a community, we are willing to pay for them. They enhance our communities. Same with symphony orchestras, parks, ball fields, swimming pools and many other community enhancing endeavors. How about libraries? The invention of Ben Franklin. Just our libraries have made us one of the most educated, innovative countries in world history. Everybody can go through those doors and educate themselves. For free. They have proved their worth beyond argument. We make choices as a society to fund those things that benefit our communities. Health care should be part of that. Our government was founded on the principle that no system could be perfect and man is an unruly character. The founders separated the powers of government into different branches, split the legislature and split the power between states and a federal government. What they did expect was for Americans to control their government and take active part in it. That's why it is a deep disservice to their memory to make blanket statements like "Government is the problem." That's like saying the people are the problem. You can't win every election in a democracy. So you should have the good graces to accept the will of the people, rather than be so wrapped up in your ideology that if you don't get the win, you work to sabotage the country out of spite.
