Default AFL 50th Anniversary math question

This year we are celebrating the founding of the original AFL teams, even though they didn't start play until 1960.

So I am thinking about how blessed we Bronco fans have been with success in the 70's, 80's, 90's and the 2000's.

Then I start thinking about the other AFC west teams and realize that out of the 50 years of the AFL one team hasn't been back to the SB since January, 11, 1970.

Of the 50 years since inception and 49 years of actual play it has been 39 years since KFC has been to the SB.

I am 42 and I was even too young at the time to remember watching their SB.

Most of our new posters are in their early 20's, that is almost twice their age!

I am guessing many KFC fans were not born or have no memory of SB IV.

Think about what it would be like to root for a team that hasn't won a SB in that long, a team coming off their worst record in 50 years at 2-14, and with little hope of seeing a turn around even with a new HC, GM, and QB.

Good food for thought! I would probably take my own life, were I in that situation. Bob? Are you reading this?

Jets too, very similar situation.

Jets and chefs won III and IV .... and neither has ever been back.

1960 was year 1 for the AFL.

Meaning 2009 is year 50. 2010 will be year 51.

happy to clear that up.

On January 11, 2010 it will be 40 years since KFC won a SB.

They were crushed in the SB vs 49ers in 1995, KFC hasn't been back since the 1969 season.

Right, thats the thing - I don't think winning the SB is as important as getting to it. Don't get me wrong there is nothing bigger than winning it, but if you haven't been to the SB in 40 years, how do you ever have the hope that you can get back there again?

I don't know. I think I would almost prefer not go than to get blown out of the stadium like my Bolts did, or like the Broncos did 4 times before they finally got one right.

Spoken like a true Bolts fan. "Why go for it when you can tank the season and get high draft picks?!"

In the immortal words of a certain coaching great: "HELLOOOO! YOU PLAY. TO WIN. THE GAME."

Sheesh! Can you imagine how it feels to be a Browns fan? To get to the Super Bowl's doorstep (AFCCG) and not get in three times in four years, then not even sniff the AFCCG since 1989 has got to be painful. No wonder the franchise left town!

You can take comfort in the fact that the Bolts were the best 8-8 team in the AFC west last season.

It's year 50, but actually 49th Anniversary.

If you were married in 1960, you wouldn't have your 1st anniversary until 1961... etc.

Wrestlemania did that this past year with Wrestlemania 25, billing it the 25th Anniversary... actually it was their 25th Wrestlemania but 24th Anniversary... Wrestlemania 2 would be the 1st Anniversary of Wresltmania.

I know, I'm a nerd.

Yeah, that had to suck, but why did Cleveland build a stadium for the Indians and not the original Browns?
Oh wait, it's Ohio we're talking about...
