Sorry for the long delay. There was very, very little to report about this practice. It was another "mental walkthrough" this time, with very little of substance. I think they were probably just cooling down after yesterday's evening's scrimmage.
The team generally just worked on installation at a quarter pace. It was very laid back. They are sure putting in alot of plays. This will be a very multiple offense initially, until they get a feel for favorite calls in down and distance situations. The team continued with its extended stretching periods, although there was no gassers at the end of practice, as they apparently let the rookies and veterans off from that task when Kenny Peterson (for the vets) and Chris Baker (for the rookies) caught a punt. Everyone cheered when they didn't muff the punts as no one wanted to run. In addition to Marshall and Dawkins, Woodyard did not practice today. Barrett filled in for him at the nickel LB spot beside DJ (despite being a natural S). Even though it was only a walkthrough, they did allow Brandstater to go up against the first team defense, even if things weren't done live, which I thought was interesting. Montrose was classic again with his Alphonso man-crush. Smith was going up against Chad Jackson and he shouted out "you don't want none of that Chad" which Chad noticed. ![]() Simms still has this huge problem with hesitancy in the pocket. He just doesn't process information in an efficient manner. He just isn't fast enough in that regard. He's so hesitant to make a decision. We also noticed Torain getting some reps. Given that this was my final practice, here is my look at the final 53: QB's 1. Kyle Orton 2. Chris Simms (Brandstater to PS) RB's 3. Peyton Hillis 4. Knowshon Moreno 5. Correll Buckhalter 6. Lamont Jordan WR's 7. Brandon Marshall (Unless he starts season out on PUP, which Montrose said he wouldn't be surprised if he did) 8. Eddie Royal 9. Jabar Gaffney 10. Brandon Stokley 11. Brandon Lloyd 12. Kenny McKinley TE's 13. Tony Scheffler 14. Daniel Graham 15. Richard Quinn OL 16. Ryan Clady 17. Ben Hamilton 18. Casey Weigmann 19. Chris Kuper 20. Ryan Harris 21. Kory Lichtensteiger 22. Seth Olsen 23. Tyler Polumbus (despite a poor camp so far) 24. Brandon Gorin DL 25. Ron Fields 26. Marcus Thomas 27. Kenny Peterson 28. Chris Baker 29. Carlton Powell 30. J'Vonne Parker (assuming his injury was not serious) 31. Mattias Askew LB 32. DJ Williams 33. Andra Davis 34. Tim Crowder 35. Elvis Dumervil 36. Robert Ayers 37. Darrell Reid 38. Wesley Woodyard 39. Spencer Larsen 40. Mario Haggan (Solid Camp) CB 41. Champ Bailey 42. Andre Goodman 43. Jack Mother ****ing Williams 44. Alphonso Smith 45. Tony Carter S 46. Brian Dawkins 47. Renaldo Hill 48. David Bruton 49. Josh Barrett 50. Darcel McBath ST 51. Lonnie Paxton 52. Brett Kern 53. Matt Prater LAST FIVE IN Tony Carter Mario Haggan Matthias Askew Lamont Jordan Tyler Polumbus LAST FIVE OUT Ryan Torain Jarvis Moss Chad Jackson Nate Swift Ryan McBean

Thanks for the report!
With all the love that Torain is getting from the camp reports, why do you have him getting cut? I would like to see the backfield go... Moreno, Hillis, Buckhalter, Torain... |

Do we think that Moss will end up playing for another team? Or will he be done with football?

I'd hoped for alot more defense in the draft, and not losing 1 if not 2 probowl players on offense. Our D is going to struggle and frankly, we're weaker on Offense. |

I think its a very, very close battle between Torain and Jordan for the last RB spot. It took some time to choose between the two. I don't think Torain has gotten alot of love so far, I'm not sure where you got that from. He hasn't been bad, but I think Jordan is slightly better in short yardage and in recent days has shown a little more pop, despite not generally having impressive speed in general. I also think Jordan's experience in this NE system and as a veteran generally also help to put him over the top. It's still a close battle, but if I were forced to pick, at this snapshot in time, I think the staff would choose Jordan.

I think Moss might get a shot with another team. In recent days after he returned, his performance hasn't been all bad, although a good bit of his success has been against Tyler Polumbus, who has had a brutal camp the last few days. I think Moss has made up some ground during that period, which is why I put him in the last five out. Certainly, if he can continue to get better, he might make it, but I think that as of this point, he's probably out.

Hey SoCal thanks for all you did and thanks for the great reports. Sorry I missed practice the past few days. Rory has been sick and I just couldn't get away. Have a safe flight and if you get stuck at the airport over a delay tomorrow call me and I will come give you a tour real quick!

Nothing of note happened at today's practice. The players were in shorts and everything was a half-speed walkthrough. The only thing of note I can report is that with Chad Jackson lined up across Alphonso Smith, I yelled out "You don't want none Chad!" and OSKIE caught Jackson and Smith laughing with Jackson asking him "Did you hear that? That fan's crazy." Also noteworthy, Nic Clemons was back practicing but J'Vonne Parker was out. They had another drill at the end in which a DL had to field a punt, Kenny Peterson was up first and caught it which had the team going crazy. Then Chris Baker was up and had a few go over his head before catching it although that one appeared to be the rookies vs. the veterans. That's about all I can think to report.
To add a bit to the report, here's the depth chart as best I can report it after one week of practice: Offense QB: Orton, Simms, Brandstater HB: Jordan, Buckhalter, Torain, Walker FB: Hillis, Larsen WR: Royal, Stokley, Swift, McKinley, Shelton WR: Gaffney, Jackson, Lloyd, Willis, Jones TE: Graham, Scheffler, Quinn, Putzier, Branson LT: Clady, Polumbus, Bryant LG: Hamilton, Olsen, Erickson C: Wiegmann, Lichtensteiger, Schlueter RG: Kuper, McChesney, Murray RT: Harris, Gorin, Oldenburg Defense - 1st Nickel in Italic DE: Peterson, Powell, Clemons, Askew, Davis DE: McBean, Thomas, Parker, Pedescleaux NT: Fields, Baker OLB: Dumervil, Moss, Ayers OLB: Reid, Crowder ILB: D.Williams, Woodyard ILB: Davis, Larsen, Haggan CB: Bailey, Smith CB: Goodman, J.Williams S: Hill, McBath, Fox S: Bruton, Barrett Special Teams K: Prater P: Kern, Colquitt DS: Paxton, Scheffler KR: Smith, McKinley PR: Smith, Royal Not included Moreno, Marshall, Dawkins Had a chance to meet Mike Klis during practice and talk for a while, really nice guy. Thought Moreno would get done soon (it did). Also mentioned he'd seen Marshall in the weight room a few times and that it was entirely about money. He made a good point that most players don't trust team doctors in general because they don't think they've got their (the players) best intentions in mind. Klis joked that losing Slowick alone would make a big difference on defense and that McDaniels is a really nice guy. I asked him if things are a lot worse for the media now and he said not really and that Shanny wasn't a great media guy either. Said Dawkins hand isn't too serious and he should be back in 10 days-2 weeks. He has the Broncos going 9-7 this year. Following practice the rookies signed autographs and I had the chance to meet my man-crush Alphonso as well Ayers. Both guys were really nice to take pictures. Ayers, in particular, stayed well after some of the rookies left to keep signing for everyone. We also met a nice lady who had SoCal ready to explode because she was happy Jay was traded and said he was a jerk to her and her kids when they had met him a few times. ![]() I thought you guys were saying that Lamont Jordan has looked lazy in a few practices? I do agree that Jordan coming in from NE certainly helps his chances at making the roster. |

You know Simms holds the ball way too long when my 8 and 10 year old football players are saying to "throw the ball already." They could see he was taking for ever.
The worst part of practice was this dude sitting just behind me toward the end. The problem the Broncos have (according to genius behind me) is that the black players and white players needed to learn to get along. Serious as a heart attack. That and Goodman doesn't stand a chance... way too small. I started to tell him about Tony Carter and Alphonso Smith and Jack Williams, but that would have led to more conversation... **** that. I was able to get about 8 autographs as well as taking some pictures with different guys. Travis Shelton and Robert Ayers were especially cool... as was Alphonso for the brief second I spoke with him. Ayers stayed out an additional 10-15 minutes for the fans which was cool of him... I bet he took a ribbin when he got back in side. |

I like your 53. And thanks for the report.
I think for the RB it looks more like: know,hillis,buck,jordan,torain.--4 true RB and peyton is the hybrid. And WR: brandon,eddie,gaffney,stokley,chad,mckinly..It was between mckin and lloyd, but i dont think Mckinley would make it to the PS. So lloyd gets the boot. |
