Tuesday Practice Report
Tuesday brought a lot less rain but a few more players to practice at Dove Valley. D.J. Williams and Wesley Woodyard joined the festivities — two more veterans recovering from injuries — after missing yesterday’s session with flu-like symptoms. Brandon Marshall and Lucas Taylor missed the morning session, which Head Coach Josh McDaniels said was a coaching decision due to soreness. The morning session was a walkthrough format, and the team headed back out to the fields for an afternoon practice as well.. Edit: (if that's the case, why would anyone need to be held out??) Here are some quick hits from Tuesday: # Ryan Clady, Jabar Gaffney, LaMont Jordan, Matt McChesney and J’Vonne Parker were a few of the players spotted walking around Dove Valley today. The veterans are not required to begin practice until Friday’s training camp kickoff. # The return of Woodyard and Williams meant rookie Lee Robinson and linebackers coach Don Martindale got a little more company. On the other hand, the absence of Marshall and Taylor meant Kenny McKinley and Nate Swift got some extra attention from receivers coach Adam Gase, as they were the only wide outs to participate in practice. # Ryan Torain was still the lone running back with coach Bobby Turner, working on different formations and practicing routes out of the backfield. # The rookies in the secondary worked with defensive backs coach Ed Donatell and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan for much of practice. They focused on play calls, going in motion and calling audibles. # McDaniels watched the quarterbacks — who you might have noticed yesterday are wearing new orange practice jerseys — for much of practice. He pulled rookie Tom Brandstater aside on several occasions to give him pointers on his footwork. ***UPDATED 4:50 p.m. MDT*** # In the afternoon session, Casey Wiegmann made an appearance on the field and said hello to offensive line coach Rick Dennison. McDaniels made his way over to shake the center’s hand, and the three chatted for a few minutes before Wiegmann headed to his car. # The linebackers paired up in the afternoon, one acting as a receiver and the other trying to break up the pass. Assistant linebackers coach Roman Phifer — a three-time Super Bowl winning linebacker himself — acted as the receiver against Wesley Woodyard several times, once hauling in an impressive grab and spiking the ball with a laugh. # Marquez Branson, McKinley, Richard Quinn, Swift and Torain all worked with the quarterbacks, often lining up four-wide with Torain in the backfield to work on route running. # The quarterbacks also practiced play action by having each other act as the running back. Kyle Orton would drop back, for example, and Brandstater would pretend to take the hand-off out of the backfield before Orton launched a pass. Now that’s a Wildcat formation. Now here are pictures from both the morning and afternoon sessions. -Gray Caldwell, DenverBroncos.com Some pics from practice here: http://blog.denverbroncos.com/denver...actice-report/ Last edited by DenverBrit; 07-28-2009 at 04:06 PM.. |
