Just waited in line this morning, got my pass, Now I'm going back tuesday to hopefully get a shot at an audition. There's no guarantee, as they do some kind of random seat pick thing, but anywho....
Needed some song suggestions. Well, lemme rephrase that. I've never really watched the show, so I don't know what the judges are looking for. Do they really care what kind of song you sing? Or is it more about showcasing your talent? Anywho, I've got about 5 songs right now that I think are gonna be money, but would love some more suggestions. I'm a baritone, range goes from about an a (bass clef) to an e maybe an f above middle c before I have to get into the ol' falsetto (sp?). Hope that kinda gives you an idea. Anywho, I can sing kinda any style, from country to operatic...so no suggestions are ruled out! P.S.!!!!!! This morning was awesome, the whole thing is taking place at Church (invesco, come on now people), so I basically spent 4 hours at one of the most magical places on earth today. THEN, on tuesday, I'm sitting section 110, row 16, seat 11! or vice versa on the seat/section. REGARDLESS, I'm basically gonna be loungin at the field all day haha!!!! ![]() So wish me luck, cause I'm goin to hollywood ![]() Is it coincidence that tryouts are taking place on hallowed ground? I THINK NOT : |

![]() AS someone who has been around music all my life singing in bands , I personally would shoot myself in the head before trying out or being on that crap show that has turned the music industry into a turd factory ... Last edited by TDmvp; 07-12-2009 at 04:37 PM.. |

Not an AI fan, but the music industry was hardly a gem of purity before the show - unless Idol has been on for decades and I didn't know it.

As for what you should pick, anything that fits your voice. Try not to do something edgy, just pick the perfect song for your pitch and tone. They NEVER look for a gimmick of for flash. |

Do not sing what is popular right now. I only watch the auditions and they always comment about hearing the songs that are hot right now or recently.
Seems they like songs that show off a persons vocal range and talent. So pick a song that is defining but not hard. What genre do you sing? My wife tried out locally to make it to tryouts. She didn't win but came in second and was recruited by an agency but it never panned out. She is into show tunes but I don't think that is what you should go with. If you really want to go all out find a song written by Randy Jackson or Simon Cowell. If you can wow them with one of their own it is bonus points. I once saw them say something like this after an audition. Okay that is all I have but good luck and tell us how it really goes down! |

Plenty of really talented people play/make music their whole lives without being part of the music industry. Idol dilutes the culture, I don't see how anyone can argue against that. I mean texting to see who the winner is?

The one criticism I've heard about the AI is that the judges usually favor the contestants who over do it. That is, subtlety is not valued by the judges when it comes to singing. The judges like a Mariah Carey type performance, even though this type of performance does not necessarily mean you have talent, it just demonstrates your ability to belt out a tune at full strength.
So, whatever you choose to sing, sing it loud and proud. As another poster suggested, go with a song that best fits your vocal strengths. Last edited by Tombstone RJ; 07-12-2009 at 05:38 PM.. |

If you make it....you have to tell us how many of the contestants hook up during Hollywood week.
Because I am sure there is some screwing going on at that hotel. |
