I met Joe Sakic and his wife on several occasions. Great guy, wish him nothing but the best in the future.

Oh, well damn. I've been over to see the Avs play the Blue-Jackets in Columbus, but I've never been able to see them in Denver. I was just off the college when the Avs matched that top-heavy contract from the Rangers way back when.

He'll be missed at many levels.

Remember how that contract was somehow connected to the opening week gross of Air Force One? What were the details of that again?

Say it aint so Joe!!
I thought he'd come back for at least one more year considering how crappy last season was for him... Dang... that's pretty saddening.

Thanks for all the memories!!

Definition of a franchise player. He might not have played a lot last year, but it's still going to be hard to recognize the Avs without #19 out there. Thanks for the memories and class Joe.

It's time. And it makes me sad that we won't see him play again (unless he stays in shape for the Olympics). He was always was my favorite player and one of the classiest guys to ever play.

Which is probably why this is one of my most memorable moments ever...

If this is true, tip of the cap to Joe Sakic. He played the game with style, grace, and passion. Next stop, Hall of Fame.

This makes Milan Hejduk the new face of the franchise...

Sakic is like the John Elway of the Avalanche btw. With Forsberg and Roy also gone, the old days are officially dead.

It's time, though sad. I remember thinking how cool he was in high school. I feel so old now.

Still have Adam Foote (though he left the Avs and came back). But yeah the great talent base the Nordiques gave this city is all but gone.

Yes, the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is located at Invesco Field. Sakic's a shoe-in.

I'm running out of active sports idols :-(.

Joe Sakic just might be my all time fav, any sport, such an amazing combo of skill, determination, leadership and class

I was telling my buddy that same thing, this is as sad to me as Elway leaving because Joe meant that much to the squad

he will be missed, on the ice and in the locker room

Gilmour was the biggest piece of ****. I really hated that guy, really hated him in the WCF when the Kings played the Leafs.
