Default Suns to keep Amare' - could sign Odem

Heard on the radio today. It was Amare' who killed the deal, saying he would not sign a long term contract with GoldenState (who can blame him) and thus the Warriors would not be willing to go through with the trade. Also, Odem said he would love to hook up with old coach Hollins and could fit well into Suns team. They just might have room for him since they dumped Shaq's 20M per. I actually think Odem and Amare' would be great together. Odem being the #3 (SF) and Amare' being the #4 (PF). Of course Amare' goes to #5 and Odem to #4 when they take their center out of the game. It could work. But I think the Suns are trying very very hard to deal Amare' because he probably won't sign a long term contract here. He's got Laker-itis and wants to hook up with Kobe in LA when he is a FA in 2011.

Well, when you pay a single player over 20M a season, you can't keep everybody. Hey, they built their bench with young good players and they won a championship. Goal reached. Now, they can let some of those young kids go who want more money. LA will find more young kids to come in and help Kobe out. Who ever does their scouting is very very good.

Nah - that's just BSPN and David Lee (Ariza's douchebag agent) playing hardball with Mitch and the Lakers FO.

Fact: Cleveland is one of five teams interested in Ariza. The other four teams include the Clippers, Rockets, Blazers, and Raptors. However only the Blazers and Raptors can offer more than the Mid-Level Exception.

Portland is interested in Hedo.

Highly unlikely that Ariza is going to sign with the Cavs (who can only offer him the MLE) and come off the bench for LBJ.

Yes, Lamar Odom. Heard it on 620AM Sports Radio here in Phoenix this morning. I believe Odom played for the Clippers and I guess Hollins used to be a coach there and those two really like each other as friends. Just some of the stuff I heard. You never know if there is any truth behind some of this stuff though. But I do think LA will lose Odom to somebody who will pay him more then what LA wants to.

Highly doubtful because (a) the few teams who can afford him either can't offer that much more than the Lakers or don't really need another power forward, (b) the Lakers will make re-signing Odom their top priority, and (c) Odom wants to stay in L.A.

Losing Ariza would be huge for the Lakeshow, that kid is a baller.

Losing 7-8 points a game is huge. He's a decent ball player and a great defender, but several people fit that bill in the NBA. Let's not get carried away.

Losing Trev would really suck on many levels, and I would be bummed, but the bright side would be that the Lakers would be in a position to sign Artest, Marion, or another top-tier SF for the MLE (which would, in turn, make it easier to re-sign Odom.)

Take with however many grains of salt you wish:

Ron Artest tells CBSSports.com's Ken Berger that he's on his way to LA... details to come.

Shaq can have LeBron. Ron Artest says he'll take Kobe.

Artest, whose versatility and toughness have made him one of the most coveted and combustible players in the NBA, told CBSSports.com Thursday that he's signing with the Lakers.

"I'm definitely going to L.A. -- to sign, yeah," Artest said in a phone interview. "Lakers, Lakers, Lakers. I'm in L.A. right now."

Artest said he met with Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss Thursday and previously had spoken with Lakers coach Phil Jackson. He was en route to his financial manager's office, where he planned to huddle on the phone with his agent, David Bauman, to finalize details.

Artest's exuberance -- he spent the whole summer in L.A., including several appearances at Lakers home games during the NBA Finals -- got ahead of the process a bit. Other teams that made overtures for Artest -- including the Cavaliers -- have not yet been notified that Artest is signing with the Lakers. (Consider them notified.) Bauman has spoken with Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak, but parameters have not yet been agreed to. Still, it's pretty clear where Artest is going.

"I don't really care about the money," Artest said. "I'll play there for nothing. ... L.A. was very interested in me, and they got me."

I have a question man. Doesn't signing begin on July 8? So he can say he is going to LA today or whatever, but he can't officially sign til then?

Confirmed: Artest is a Laker

Free agent Ron Artest has agreed to sign with the Lakers. Don't have many more details, but his agent said he would have a more formal announcement later this afternoon. Artest could fit nicely in the void created by Trevor Ariza's apparent desire to seek a contract elsewhere. Artest probably will play for the $5.6 million mid-level exception. Now, does an agreement with Artest make it easier for the Lakers to re-sign Lamar Odom? Artest and Odom are childhood friends from New York City.

On AM570 right now:

*Just reported the Rockets signed Trevor Ariza
* They are saying that Ariza is definitely going to regret being too aggressive with the Lakers in wanting a little more money and his agent is going to regret this.

Wow. I guess his #1 priority was money, not winning.

I think Ariza just got hosed by his agent David Lee.

Lee is just looking for a quick payday.

Instead, he probably just lost a client and took a big hit to his rep.
