If someone hasn't been there, go, and you will not be disapointed. Truly inspirational.

when I went to normandy I had eaten bad escargot the night before and I was booting my brains out and felt like crap....I think it added to the experience.

Herk, thanks for the pics. I like to see stuff like this all the time, and see what a true natural monument a place can be. It's so weird seeing the nice, pristine beaches, and think of the turmoil and bloodshed that happened there. It's just hard to fathom.

Our next trip to France will definately include a drive up to the north coast.

me too. I know if i went i would be crying. Our greatest generation loses hundreds from that war everyday. My grandpa died last year and my other one (who fought for Canada) is approaching 90 next month. If you ever see one of these old vets, tell them thank you as they might not have heard it in awhile. Herc, was there any guys from 101 Airborne (band of brothers) or 89 there?

Quite a few vets everywhere, some of the BoB guys were there (only a few) and they were always surrounded by people. I was in the church in St Mere Eglise when some came in. You'd have thought the president was there by all the handlers, both French and American. Met quite a few guys this weekend. I was at the cemetery and got some pix with about 20 or so Brit Gentlemen that were at Sword and Gold beaches. Also met some former Brit Paras that landed at Pegasus bridge that first night. Just intense guys.

I can't imagine what it would have been like to storm that beach with a dug in opponent. God Bless those boys. They had no illusions.
