Racism is still very real all over Europe.

An American soccer player has lodged a formal complaint in the player on an opposing team in what could be a landmark, precedence-setting case that could set a new standard for the behavior of people all over Europe in regards to racism.

American Oguchi "Gooch" Onyewu has stood up for the legions of African-descended players all over Europe.

Yet another reason to be proud to be an American.

Unlike the racist chants that cascade from the stands in some European nations, the racist taunts on the field are often whispered in a player's ear when referees are out of earshot.

Racism from the stands has been going for years, with fans making money chants and throwing bananas at black players. Soccer officials have long condemned it and fined clubs.

Throwing bananas? Racist chants? I am appalled! Sad times and no place for that for sure--but they PALE in comparison to what is happening in Africa right now--not just words--but ACTIONS--amazing how the media is IGNORING genocide against whites........

I cannot believe that S Africa was given the rights to host the World Cup next year--THAT is a travesty as well given the background of this crumbling country.

Anyway, the guy he's making the allegations against is named Jelle Van Damme.

Hopefully they'll find some witnesses willing to back up Onyewu's statements if this is true. Very hard to prove this otherwise as players can't be miked up in soccer so it's one guys word against another.

You would be crazy and ignorant to believe that racism doesn't exist in the states. As an African American, there are so many examples that go on in our daily lives that indicate racism still exists (and racial profiles because of your skin color, racial slurs between crowds, being thought of as stupid and uneducated, women clutching their purse when walking by, still being served last in bars, etc.). Only the most extreme cases of racisms hits the news such as one of the most recent the Jena 6 also.

The other five defendants still await trial.

I agree--her making the relation between her ethnicity and gender and an inherent ability to make better judicial judgements than a white male was truly disgusting and appalling.......and some people actually defended those statements as benign......

Black people, hispanics, asians, whites, arabs. If racism were dead, then people wouldnt bother living in ethnic communities. It would be just fine to truly be mixed around.

However, I think the point of this thread, or what Im taking for it, is those uppity ****ing euro trash talk down about the US and how bad it is here but those dip****s are so decadent, and so downright snobbish that you wouldnt catch me dead anywhere in Europe.
