Default Cutler "alienating" Bears fans

Hesitated posting this, and then figured "why not?" Boring offseason doldrums, maybe this will spark some "fun"...

Cutler Alienating Bears Fans?
Posted by Aaron Wilson on May 31, 2009, 4:44 p.m. EDT

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, the rocket-armed Pro Bowl passer acquired this offseason in a blockbuster trade from the Denver Broncos, apparently isn’t making himself very popular with the local fan base.

According to David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune, Cutler is turning off some fans by refusing to sign autographs while attending Chicago Cubs baseball games.

“I know Cutler already has alienated enough small pockets of fans at various appearances in Chicago to produce a flurry of furious e-mails, such as the one from a guy at Wrigley Field last week who criticized the quarterback for waving off autograph seekers,” Haugh writes. “Generally speaking, the same folks complaining about Cutler’s insouciant behavior will be cheering him on his first 350-yard Sunday. Sure, Cutler could do himself some favors by exuding more charm or suffering the occasional fool with a little less outward disdain.

“But those who have been Bears fans for two decades or two generations, need to remember Cutler has been here for two months. There will be and has been a degree of culture shock. Denver isn’t Chicago. Eventually, Cutler will adjust because he will learn life is easier that way in this tradition-rich football city. If he doesn’t, then he will get what he deserves. But it’s too early in his tenure to predict that.”

As Haugh correctly pointed out, Cutler just got to town. Plus, football isn’t a popularity contest.

It’s a game of skill and will.

Nonetheless, this piece of information does tend to reinforce the bad reputation that Cutler gained during his messy divorce from the Denver Broncos.

Besides working on throwing touchdown passes, Cutler might want to sign a few autographs.

It only took Chicago a month to realize he is a douchebag.

Try the 30's and 40's.

90% of their fanbase doesn't know what it's like to have a franchise QB, so the tradition argument doesn't apply in this respect.

Glad to see another one agreeing that Jay is a franchise quarterback

Dream on, dumbass. Cutler won't 'adjust'.

You don't know who he is yet.

That he's a bit of a prick is news? Oh well.

Threaten to trade him Bears fans, see if he has a nervous twitch at the mention of "'trade"...

I think most NFC teams believe their tradition is richer then AFC teams.

Never said he wasn't. I've just never been in the group that thinks Jay can piss and moan, whine like a little b**** to get his way, and say whatever he wants simply because he's a franchise QB.

As the author of the article wrote--as soon as he passes for 300+ yards and 3TD's all will be forgiven........and as we enter into a QB controversy by our BYE week next season when we are 1-5 or 2-4--we will be wishing that we had a QB that warranted people seeking his autograph..........

I don't think we're going to start out 1-5. The first three games are pretty soft and people will probably get a false euphoria because we'll start out pretty well. It's the next 10 games that will bring weekly meltdowns.

Cutler only got Broncos to 16th in scoring and we went 8-8. Why do people think being middle of the pack in scoring is so tough to reach?

Not only will Broncos score as many, or more points this yr but they will give up less.

Broncos were never good even one yr with Cutler. All 3 of his yrs stunk. IMO it won't be hard to match that.

Really? Cincy's defense played REALLY well down the stretch last year and they added Rey-Rey--a quality MLB. Carson Palmer returns and they open @ home--I think that we will be in for a fight.

Week 2--CLE--we had BETTER win our home opener.

week 3 @ JOKELAND---Garcia will be starting for them by then and their defense is solid--the next 3 games--we will be A$$ raped--DAL, NE @ SD. Yikes--if we win 2 of our first 6 I will be pleasantly surprised (I cannot believe I just typed that)

I think you may be right, we could have a really ugly start. However, if the HC is half as good as some here believe he is, then we should have at least 3 wins. I honestly don't know how good or bad a HC he may be, I just have some very reasonable concerns.

When and if the Broncos make the playoffs, I want to hear from the McDaniels crew, till then it's all a promise.

Shanny left the defense and special teams in shambles, may take 2 yrs to make playoffs.
