Adopt-a-Bronco:
Pat Bowlen
Default Positive snippet on Andre Goodman

Article on FoxSports about the hyped offseason signings vs. the ones that are potentially better, yet flew under the radar...

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9...-the-offseason

6. The buzz-worthy move: Denver signs S Brian Dawkins
The under-the-radar move: Denver signs CB Andre Goodman

Denver's secondary should be bolstered by adding ex-Dolphin Andre Goodman.

In Dawkins, the Broncos get a 12-time Pro Bowl selection and arguably the most beloved player in Philadelphia Eagles history. In Goodman, they get a potential breakout star that, despite being 30, is on the verge of becoming one of the NFL's better cornerbacks.

After battling a laundry list of ankle, knee and shoulder issues in previous seasons, Goodman stayed healthy and started 16 games for the miracle Dolphins last season. He led Miami in interceptions and passes defended in '08. Denver's got Champ Bailey at one corner spot and spent a future first-round pick on 2009 second-round selection Alphonso Smith. But don't sleep on Goodman. He could be the brightest star of all three in '09.

From what I have seen from Smith I'm betting he will be starting by the second half of the year. I bet Champ or Goodman get nicked and he steps in and won't lose the position opposite of Champ.

i bet smith stays nickel all season. theres no point in rushing 2 good corners off the field if we can get all 3 on at hte same time.

How does Smith compare to Darrent Williams. Do you expect Smith to be better than Darrent would've been in his prime?

Not very much alike, other than both being kinda short.

Smith has far superior man cover and ball skills than Darrent would've probably ever developed, but Darrent was one of the most willing CBs in run support I've seen in a while, despite his small size.

Smith is more like Antonio Winfield or a young Dre Bly, a very athletic cover corner who can make plays on the ball. Darrent was like a poor man's Bob Sanders playing corner.

Smith was a better corner than Williams in college.
I anticipate Smith will be a superior cover corner than Williams ever was, but Williams was tough, and was a good all around football player.

Goodman really impressed me in the game against us last season. He played very well technically and basically took Marshall out of the game. I'm not so sure I buy him as a breakout star but rather a solid starter. As we know all to well, if there's no pressure on the QB he'll be burned like any other CB.

Per Smith, hopefully the new staff is wise enough to leave him at nickle instead of moving him outside. Slowick tried that crap with JMFW and Bowe killed us.

If Goodman was really "on the verge of becoming one of the NFL's better cornerbacks," he would still be a Dolphin.

Anybody think about that?

D-Will was faster.

No way in hell Alphonso Smith starts over Goodman at ANY POINT in the season.

Goodman is a damn good cornerback and for Smith, at least during his rookie year, his PERFECT position is covering the slot receiver and being a nickle back.

Why does everyone want him over Goodman? Goodman had 5 ints last season and is taller. Doesn't make a lick of sense.

This precludes the possibility that the Dolphins can make mistakes...I agree, though. I'm happy about Goodman, but I'm not expecting even a remote possibility of him outplaying Bailey(Unlike the guy who wrote this).

Won't matter if we are playing touch on the DL.

Smith is and will be a better cover Corner, but DWill was a better all around football plkayer. the guy was tough, had major speed, and was a willing tackler in the running game.

Actually, Smith is considered tough in run support as well and was frequently used on corner blitzes at Wake Forrest. Obviously, Smith has to step on the field and prove something, but just in terms of skill set I'd say Smith is the better all-around player with Williams only besting him in terms of speed.

Before the tragedy people on here were calling for Darrents head. Now he was a great all around football player?

That aside, you can't say Smith is better when he hasn't played a single snap.

People keep forgetting about that...He was not a popular guy at the end of that season.
