This is kind of a spinoff of the where you visit most frequently list.
As many of you know, I am a web developer. As a web developer my tastes in website design is probably a little more refined than most of you. I notice the little things, most people probably dont care for. So, here's my question(s). Of the websites you have been to or frequent, which of them do you like the best as far as usability? Which websites do you get annoyed at when you have to go there? Have you ever come across a website that had information you want but you hated it so much you refused to go there anymore? This isnt just a standard thread for bull****ting purposes, Im actually doing some research on what people like in websites (design, usability, navigation through the site, etc). Its all in an effort to help improve my own UI skills (thats user interface) and help make suggestions on what works, what is useful to the designers I work with. So, give me your top 3 favorite sites concerning pleasurable surfing experience. Not content, like the Orangemane. Content is what keeps you people coming here. But for instance, do you prefer ESPN or CBS Sports? (I prefer CBS Sports, its easier to switch from sport to sport through their interface and their community is better designed and easier to navigate). Do you prefer Amazon or eBay? Craiglist or Backpage? And why? |

I hate Verizon Wireless' website. Too many graphics and animations slow up loading time and it's hard to find what you're looking for.

I love Scoop structure. The most famous being www.dailykos.com, but there's a lot of smaller and less controversial ones out there too like our friends over at www.milehighreport.com.

Okay, for the big two (and I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for or not), let's talk myspace and facebook.
Myspace, very quick load time. Easy to read task bar (friends, inbox, search, etc) with very convenient submenus that get you exactly where you need to go. They recently made pic sharing/uploading MUCH easier, and are constantly upgrading small features like your update status, name status, blog entries, much easier to find and change. They also allow personalizeable (sp?) homepages...I mean your actual USER page, not your pub page. This further accomodates personalization which is very helpful. They also have the great music searching/utilizing tool that allows you to investigate and use allllll the artists available at no charge. very smart. and enjoyable. Facebook seems quite bogged down to me. Every page takes FOREVER to load, the menu bars are confusing...takes quite a bit longer to find new friends and mail if you don't go straight from an email link. WAY too clustered on your home page, and not any great personalization options. It's just seems very difficult navigation wise. Some of my favorite sites (for ease of navigation use and setup) wwtdd.com Easy to use keyword search that bring up entire articles with pictures. any pics in the individual articles come with galleries for easy browsing. Not a whole lot of pomp and circumstance, just in your face news with minimal ads, easy to use search functions, and pleasurably simple interface. craigslist. easiest design to navigate period. No annoying graphics. Easy EASY search options. TONS of categories that readily fulfill shopping needs. The only problem I have with the site is the "user regulation", because I find the ability to remove certain ads because of a disagreement to be quite redundant. Let the mods or a security company decide what the **** they want on their website. hope this helps |

oh ya and one more. Yahoo is my homepage. LOVE IT. The email is super easy and concise. You can customize whatEVER you want from news, sports, weather, entertainment, etc etc to appear in your personalized area. Not to mention their customer service is great, pages load quickly, and the email is free. My only complaint is sometimes when trying to reach certain news stories, they often link you to another site with tons of ads, spam etc etc. All of the stories posted from AP and whatnot come up quickly and easily.
I guess I enjoy sites that don't have you running ALL OVER The place to accomplish something simple, and for places I frequent often I enjoy a bit of customization. And too many graphics suck |

and one more thing. WHOEVER THE MOD IS, can we PLEASE CHANGE the time it takes before you're logged out? It's such a ****ing pain in the ass to type a big long shpiel, only to hit post reply and be told you can't perform this action, but need to refresh the page and login again. Ten minutes too much to ask? yes, I know control c and paste it again but if I go get a soda and come back, I don't wanna have to tell you it's me again. come on now

drudge is one of the best sites IMO. I once saw a designer write-up why it was so good, despite the overly simple interface (which is, of course, why it's so good). It's my daily and main news source.
I also like sites like: http://www.aldaily.com/ http://www.wilsoncenter.org/index.cf...ion=wq.welcome Again, because of the simple and easy to use interface (though I am one of those odd web users that will actually scroll and follow links so what do I know). As for the 3 I frequent most: drudge facebook (for work purposes mostly, would not go for personal reasons as much) espn (and, of course, here). |

I never get logged out of the Mane. Typing a long message, reading threads, closing my browser and re-opening it the next day, I'm always logged in. Maybe it's a setting you have on your browser that's the problem. |

I hate Facebook's interface. It seems way too confusing and I have a hard time navigating to find what I want. Too much crap going on on that site.

ohhhh, ya know, you guys could be right. I'm on a computer that's shared by three people, and all of the settings are always getting cleared, cookies, etc... so maybe that's the problem. cheers
