According the the NFL twitter feed, they are thinking of holding round 1 on a thursday in prime time. ROunds 2-3 on friday. 4-7 on sat.
I understand they are excited about high ratings and want the most money possible, but for me the draft is a communal weekend for like minded people to talk football and share unlimited optimism. If you have the first round on a thursday night, people like me (on the west coast) will be at work when it starts. This would be horrible. KEEP IT THE WAY IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! |

I think drawing it out like that would also cause a lot of headaches for the people in charge of each teams' drafts. Picks traded between teams, talks going on through 3 days and 2 nights for said trades...what a nightmare for all the team draft staffs.

I heard they were moving it to Thursday? Im sure before long, theyll want to have a concert featuring Bon Jovi to kick it off as well. No thanks. Keep it on the weekend. I dont even like that they moved it to 2 pm (Mtn) on Saturday.

Heard it on the Herd this morning. I don't like it as laid out but round 1 on Friday night in prime time would be cool followed by rounds 2-3 on Saturday and the rest on Sunday.

You're looking at it all wrong! My first thought was: four day man weekend!
The drawback I see is some poor shlub like Everette Brown getting suited up and chilling at home with the camera crew for thursday night, and then not getting taken at all that day. They'd really need to hammer out a solid camera strategy. |

Just out of curiosity... why isn'gt the draft still 12 rounds?
Every team signs between 5 and 15 UDFA after round 7. Why not keep it at 12 rounds and significantly lessen the crazy **** that goes on behind the scenes with UDFA? |

In general, no, they don't. But a Friday night 1st round prime time party would be a huge draw.
The sports bars would be packed (already alot of people out watching NBA/NHL PO's) Die hard fan is going to watch no matter what. Lot's of casual fans may be MORE inclined to tune in for the first round only and still have their weekend for their honey-do's. I think treating the first round as a stand alone event in prime time would be a HUGE success. (Although PRB has a point about the camera feeds of potential 1st rounders) |

Yea, count me in as a nay.
I went to a great draft/poker party on Saturday. It's definitely turned into an event. I can't imagine wanting to stick it on a weeknight. What, are they having problems finding ****ing advertisers? Good lord, it's the NFL draft! |

Everything is an event anymore, just look at the way they treat the release of the schedule now. Pretty soon the NFNN & ESPN will have a prime time specials for the release of single game tickets.
