Default LB Lee Robinson...

Strengths:
Good height and bulk...Above average athleticism...Decent speed with a burst to close...Does a great job in pursuit...Has a fantastic motor...A good pass rusher...Durable...Hard worker...Team leader...Productive.

Weaknesses:
Did not play against top competition...Average strength...Has some trouble taking on and shedding blockers...Will miss some tackles...A little stiff and doesn't change directions well...Still raw as a technician.

Notes:
Won the Mississippi state titles in both the long jump and triple jump as a prep...Was a four-year starter for the Braves and never missed a game...Played both outside and middle linebacker in college...Named 1st Team All-SWAC as a senior...Top small school sleeper who could project outside or inside in either a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme...Definitely has some physical tools to develop and might be worth a late round flyer.

Gotta say, looks pretty interesting. It's easy to get excited about free agents, and teams passed on him for a reason. But, video doesn't lie. He's got some skills.

I was glad to see we signed him. Id like to see some honesty in playing LBs even if that means Robinson, Larsen, and Woodyard.

If nothing else he looks like the kind of guy that could make some good plays for us on special teams with his size/speed. NIce pickup.

Usually project players have a ton of physical ability, such as this guy, but need a few years to groom into potential good NFL players. Some make it, some don't. If we had drafted this guy 2 years ago, he'd be looking at the exit sign on his way out of town since our recent DC's sucked at developing young talent. Now, I really believe a guy like this has a lagit shot to actually develop into a decent player in a year or two with Nolan around.

Yeah, last year made you wonder how many of our prior picks would have acutally been good if given the chance. It was really sad how much better things seemed on defense when Larsen and Woodyard played. Of course, this was at the time when we had Hillis going so that was also part of it. But Hillis is actually another example of what Im saying.

Mile High report:

OLB, Lee Robinson, Alcorn St.

by styg50 on Mar 28, 2009 4:47 PM MDT in 2009 NFL Draft 0 comments

OLB, Lee Robinson, Alcorn St.

At A Glance
Position 1: Outside LinebackerHeight: 6-2
Position 2: Weight: 249
Class: SeniorAge:
Projected Round: 5th-6th 40time: 4.74
Combine/Proday Results
Bench Reps: 24Vertical: 32.5
20yd Split: 2.74Broad Jump: 9'5"
10yd Split: 1.6620yd Shuttle: 4.67
3 Cone Drill: 7.57
Pros: Good height and upper-body strength. ... Can bull rush and rip from running back/tight end blocks. ... Nice closing speed, runs downhill to attack ballcarriers.
Cons: Teams will not know whether he's a versatile inside-outside linebacker or a "tweener" until they have him in training camp.
Styg's Broncos Fit: This guy reminds me eerily of Wesley Woodyard, and that is a damn good thing. He is a good tackler, reads plays well and is instinctual in following the play to the ball. Like WW, one of his strongest assets is keeping blockers away from his legs and keeping hands out of his frame, which leaves him free to make the tackle at the line of scrimmage. His open-field tackling could use work however, as he doesn't consistently break down but he shows a ton of hustle and is quick to congratulate teammates, making him a respected member of the team. His coverage ability is adequate, though he can't hang very long on deeper routes. Has all the markings of a late-round, high-impact player.

Around MHR:

Around SBNation:
From "Draft Sleeper at LB?" at Arrowhead Pride:
A powerfully built linebacker with good upper body strength, Robinson knows how to create collisions on contact. He loves to attack downhill, does a nice job closing quickly on the ball and makes plays on all areas of the field. Robinson did a much better job in space than scouts anticipated at the Texas vs. the Nation Bowl. He still is a bit stiff when asked to redirect but does a nice job flipping his hips and staying with receivers out of the backfield. He also lined up as a down defensive end at times. Possesses the first-step quickness and natural leverage to bull rush linemen and get after the quarterback.
From "Texas vs. Nation review" at Blogging the Boys:
Lee Robinson(OLB-Alcorn State) - You can see Robinson’s superior athleticism/size combo out there even if you’re not looking for it. He didn’t make huge plays like Joseph, but his burst off the snap, ability to fight through blocks, and one play where he easily threw an opponent to the ground all amounted to a good closing argument in the case he built to be a mid-round pick in the draft during the week in El Paso.
From "Best Draft Prospect you've Never Heard of" at Phinsider:
His strengths include: Great athleticism and strength, especially upper body. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school, and has good speed, leaping ability, and explosiveness. He has good instincts and is always heading towards the ball. He is a big hitter who enjoys laying out the ball carrier. He is good at getting off of blocks. He is extremely versatile- he played OLB in college, but also got down in a 3 point stance frequently to take advantage of his explosiveness in rushing the passer. His size, run stopping ability, and instinct make him a possibility at inside backer as well. At the Texas vs. The Nation game, he showcased his ability to cover TEs and RBs one on one, and should be fully capable of dropping into coverage in a 3-4, as well as hanging with athletic pulling guards trying to block down field in space. He is a fantastic leader, both in the game and out.
Highlights:

Scouting Reports and Offsite Links:
  • Lee Robinson racked up huge tackle and turnover numbers as a linebacker in a small conference. Does his athletic game translate to the big time? Let the film do the talking on Draftguys TV [see more...]
  • Lesser-known prospects like WR Dominique Edison (Stephen F. Austin), OG/C T.J. Lang (Eastern Michigan), CB Christopher Owens (San Jose State), OLB Lee Robinson (Alcorn State) and OT Sebastian Vollmer (Houston) will litter the middle rounds, but fans will know their names soon enough as they compete for playing time as rookies. [see more...] {excellent article~styg}
  • OLB Lee Robinson - Alcorn St. - 6'2" 249 lbs.
Strong small college backer combines the prototypical physical skills to play at the next level. He is strong with the technique to stack on the inside and the mobility to get to the edge and make tackles. He looks to shine in this game and could be the highest drafted prospects with an impressive game performance. [see more...]

Of course the idiots will say he's a waste of a signing, but if the Broncos had used a 4-6th round pick on him, where he was projected to go, they would be happy. The sense around here is great.
