I loved the Moreno pick, I think he will be great for us, but I don't know much about Ayers. So come on O-mane draftheads tell me about Ayers.

Mike Mayock: "In three years Robert Ayers will be the best defensive player in this entire draft."

Mayock likes him. Likes him a lot, in fact. So there's that.

He's the kind of guy that Nolan has gone looking for at every other DC job he's had. Two most recent where Adalius Thomas and Justin Smith. Big guy who is athletic enough to play DE or OLB depending on situation.
He'll need coaching, but hopefully we now have the staff capable of doing just that. Probably couldn't have moved down much and still got him as well, the Pats supposedly were big on him. Not bad value for a guy who went #11 to the Bills in some mocks. |

maybe, but why get cute?...
don't even take the chance...if you can get your guy then get 'em... McD & Co seemed to believe either SD or NO was targeting Moreno, so they nabbed him... hybrid OLB/DEs fell, so they knew they could still get an Ayers, but without being able to trade up form #18, Moreno had to be the pick then, or never... |

I like him, I really see a lot of James Harrison in him, High motor, very passionate, will bring some fire to our defense.
Plus we can chant: Ayers Ay Ayers! Ayers Ay Ayers! Every time he gets a sack/big play! |

Yep, I think the Broncos thought Moreno woukd be gone by #18, so take him when had the chance. I was surprised they didn't take Orapko, but must have thought Ayers is closer in talent to Orapko than the Broncos could find a RB they liked as much as Moreno later in the draft.

I predicted both. Moreno because he was the only player I thought would be worth a 12 pick. Ayers because after watching video, he impressed me the most with speed off the line and technique. His biggest nock is actually a asset in my view - he is just starting to peak.
The fact that the Patriots traded down with Rey Rey still on the board tells you everything you need to know about him. Orakpo probably would not have worked well in a 3-4 env, but we may live to regret it. |
