Default Random thoughts- comments welcome

Listed are a few very speculative ideas that may or may not be true. Hoping this is interesting and wanted to get some comments.

1) Pioli maybe responsible
Chiefs new GM Pioli used his N.E. ties to leak story of Cutler-Cassel
trade. Note he is a rival for division and N.E. connections plus
Denver f**ed with his in-place deal for Cassel.

2) Jones thinking of Shannahan
Jerry Jones add a very strange clause in Dan Reeves contract at the
last minute requiring Reeves to account for all hours worked. Why would
Jones disrespect Reeves a former Cowboy and likely eventual Hall of Fame coach. The plan was to dismiss the deal with hopes of bringing in Shannahan next year

3) McDaniels never wanted Cutler
McDaniels removed all rivals for control of the offense and team. Cutler
didn't fit into his 'scheme 1st - player talent 2nd' philosophy. He used Cutler's
ego to force a trade. Maybe McDaniels N.E. contacts leaked the Cassel
trade deal?

4) Sanchez good for talent + Hispanic
QB is the face of the team and team leader. Sanchez is a very good player
plus he has the added bonus of potentially rewarding his team with many
new fans from the Hispanic community translating into $$$$. No one is
mentioning this but I bet it is on teams minds.

5) Rey Maualuga draft stock hit
Of all the off-field issues for the draftees this year, Rey Maualuga is on
tape with an unauthorized 'dance' with a female reporter. Teams may have
visions of this tape being played for years to come. He will slide on
Saturday.

Sanchez would/will be a perfect fit for the 49ers. They will increase ticket sales overnight.

Probably would be the same with any team.

Wouldn't be surprised if this one was true.

Correct. It's unfair that he didn't receive more scrutiny. And he should have lost his right to vote in American elections.

Shoulda officially revoked his citizenship and relegated him to Canadian status, for sure...

My personal opinion is that Shanny is done as an NFL head coach. I think he's put in decades of hard work and literally stood on the NFL summit for so many years, but that time has taken a toll. He looks worn down to me. I think he's retired from the NFL, and deservedly so, he's earned it IMO!

Having said that, if he did return I imagine Dallas would be it. Jones obviously runs the show and would be looking for a figurehead, ala Phillips, to just manage locker room personalities and patrol the sideline. Nothing really inventive or cutting edge would be required from the coach. Just sit back and delegate. I think that's what the last few years in Denver have been and why Bowlen pulled the trigger finally.

It would be sad to see the once great Shanahan reduced to being a lackey. I hope he stays retired.

Not any team, I think we might lose ticket holders if we pick up this bedpan!! I can think of about 15-20 teams who would not be happy if they got him

From the NFL.com story:

Mexican media will cover the draft like never before, and TV Azteca, the largest television network in Mexico, has applied for credentials to the event in New York to bring the moment that Sanchez is selected back home to the community that adores him.

"The media is getting crazy here covering Mark," said Juan Carlos Vazquez Ruiz, an NFL play-by-play commentator for TV Azteca, which is based in Mexico City. "He's even stealing some space from soccer in the newspapers. Mexican fans are paying a lot of attention to him."

And what would Sanchez playing in the league do for NFL game ratings in Mexico, which already are strong but still lag far behind those of soccer, the country's dominant sport?

"I have no doubt that ratings are going to increase at least 50 percent, obviously when he starts a game," Vazquez Ruiz said. "And the merchandising will explode. He alone will create an immediate fan base for the team that selects him in the draft."

VERY interesting ... I love this kind of "outside the box" thinking.

Phillips' contract does expire next year, but why couldn't Jerry just bring Mike in right away? He doesn't seem like a guy who's good at delaying gratification ... (although I thought the same thing before he traded the 1st round Brady Quinn pick to Cleveland).

Not an impossible thought ... but what if Reeves had agreed to the clause?

Maybe on Bowlen's mind and Joe Ellis's mind ... but I doubt Pat would impose marketing concerns on his football people. After all, Jay is gone, and that's a definite marketing hit.

That was crude ... but that alone doesn't kill his stock. But that - plus other character concerns we might not even know about - that could definitley force a fall.
