Default OT - vacation by yourself?

I'm actually thinking of just taking off on a vacation for one. Just to get away from everything and kick back for a week or so.

Vegas keeps popping into my mind. Has anyone ever gone alone?

Maybe a cruise or something. Just kicking it around

Who has gone on vacation alone? Good or Bad

I go out to Boston all the time. Going by yourself is a great way to just chill, and talk so some ladies without any pressure.

I've goen all sorts of places by myself. My wife travels a lot for work, so she also takes a day or two in cities to have fun. Go for it!

Vegas is cheaper right now, not as many people traveling. Could always go to a beach and relax too.

I did 3 weeks in Europe by myself back in college. No regrets and I wouldn't have it any other way if I were to go back and do it again. Every day, I simply did what I wanted, when I wanted to do it. No real restrictions.

There were a few times I got loaded with strangers, passed out in random parks and never made it back to my hostel. Looking back on it, I'm still not quite sure how I never got mugged, beaten up, raped or left for dead at any point.

I like to go on backpacking trips into the woods alone - well, Olliedog usually comes with me. I really enjoy the feeling of being miles into the woods, having a camp fire stoked, a couple of frosties that I've packed in (usually malt liquor for a trip like this), and an MP3 player. A man can get a lot of thinking done in a scene like that.

I don't think that I would enjoy going on a cruise or to Vegas alone. I think in that situation, the activity would contrast with me being alone and make me feel - alone. I don't feel alone when I'm in the woods alone - I keep myself company. In Vegas, I'm not so sure I'd be good company for myself...

That proably doesn't make sense to anybody but me.

Last time I had a solo vacation, I drove to the Kansas border just to see what it looked like.

Kind of a disappointment, so I'd recommend something else.

Living where I do I get out in the hills large portions of the summer. I fully understand where your coming from. That said I can do that anytime. I'm looking for something alittle more "away" from my natural surroundings.

not exactly...though I've successfully convinced myself that the alcohol was the cause of the blackouts and not some traumatizing event that I buried deep in my psyche.

Though for some reason I have an irrational fear of banjos.

Big fan of the solo vacation. Like TJ, I like a long hike and campout in the middle of nowhere with a few barley pops and some good music... Finding a natural hot spring is a bonus.

I take solo trips up to Montana every so often just to clear my head. I have tons of friends and family up there, and I don't call any of them. Just cruise up, hang out in my favorite city (Missoula) and then come home, batteries re-charged.

A couple years ago, I was in San Diego with my family and my brother and his family. The Padres were playing the Rockies, and we were staying a few blocks from Petco. Nobody wanted to go, so I went by myself. It was seriously the most fun I ever had at a baseball game. I ended up right behind the dugout (I didn't need seats together, so I was able to walk up and buy great tickets), and had some lady behind me giving me Avs updates (they were playing for the last spot in the playoffs) - I had an Avs sweatshirt on, and she had a portable radio with the game.

I totally agree...there is nothing better than camping in the middle of know where and all you can hear are the crickets and the birds chirping..full moon no clouds in the sky and hardly a breeze..though i like to camp with a couple of good buddies and just BS the whole night while drinking some brew and cookin up some brats over the fire...doesn't get any better than that IMO!!

Vacations are great by yourself.

I haven't done the "traditional" vacations by myself, but I have made several trips to Denver Broncos games by myself. It's always fun meeting new people and sometimes it's easier to meet new people when you are by yourself than it is when you are with others.

Have fun wherever you decide to go!!

That's what I would do if I wanted to take a solo vacation that didn't involve the woods. I would just hop in the car and drive. Spin a bottle on the ground - and go. I'd buy my maps along the way and decide what to see once I got where I ended up.
