Default Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart killed

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_185133.html

TMZ reports that 22-year-old Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a hit-and-run car accident early Thursday morning — just hours after pitching six shutout innings against the Oakland A's:

Cops say someone driving a minivan blew through a red light and hit the Mitsubishi that Adenhart was riding in. Three people were killed in the crash, including Nick.

Cops say the person driving the van fled the scene -- but was later caught and charged with felony hit-and-run.

We're told one of the other men killed in the crash was also affiliated with the Angels organization.

The AP's story on Wednesday's game — in which the A's beat the Angels 6-4 — notes that it was Adenhart's fourth major league start:

Angels rookie Nick Adenhart scattered seven hits over six scoreless innings and escaped a pair of bases-loaded jams. He struck out five and walked three in his fourth major league start.

Adenhart was born in Silver Springs, Maryland on August 24, 1986. The right-handed pitcher graduated from Williamsport High School in Maryland and made his major league debut on May 1, 2008.

RIP. Seems like horrible news is more than plentiful these days. My thoughts go out to his family, and to all of the families hurt in the accident.

That was my thought, too. Maybe it's always been this way. It just seems like a lot.

****ing people should learn how to drive, that's just sad, first a fan dies at the game then a player.

In this case, people should learn how to call a cab.

I'm so sick of drunk/stoned/texting drivers. I've had a few people I've known die by such in the last few years. It hasn't been anyone I've known all that well, thank God. But you see it, and your imagination starts running. It's sick, selfish, and so easily avoided.

I agree and I was just venting, drunk driving pisses me off as well.

Sorry about you losing someone you knew.

20 yr old Cal State Fullerton student Courtney Stewart, the driver of the Mitsubishi Eclipse who was also killed.

The 3rd victim, 25-year-old Henry Nigel Pearson. According to reports, Pearson was a law student who wanted to be a sports agent.

The first mugshot of Andrew Gallow on the left is from an '06 arrest for being drunk in public. We also got our hands on court documents from his DUI, which was also in '06, in which Gallow wrote this haunting sentence:

"I understand that if I continue to drink and drive it may result in death or serious bodily injury to another person."

UPDATE: The middle pic of Gallow is his bloody mugshot from a March '07 arrest for drunk and disorderly conduct.

We've just obtained a photo of Andrew Gallo, who was driving the van that caused the accident that killed Nick Adenhart and two others.

Cops believe Gallo was driving under the influence and on a suspended license because of a prior DUI. He fled the scene and was arrested. Gallo could be booked on murder charges, along with vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and felony DUI.

Oh, I wasn't ripping on you. And fortunately, I didn't know them very well. Our friend's pregnant sister was killed with two of her children last year by a seventeen-year-old kid that had been drinking. It was a sad deal all around -for the family, obviously, because they lost basically four family members, in an instant. But it was sad for the driver, too. He was just a kid doing dumb kid things. He was a popular kid in school, a pretty good athlete, and a decent student - his parents were good friends with the victims. Now, he has to live the rest of his life with the fact that he did this thing. I feel for the kid.

Hang the idiot out to dry. I can feel some sympathy for a kid like the one I mentioned above - someone who just doesn't consider the potential repercussions of his actions. But you do the same thing again and again and again, you should pay the price.
