Default Elway 'stigma' gone? Or at least weakened now?

I was thinking about this, how we always ride our QB's expecting tem to be another #7. Does this whole Cutler event lesson that stigma? I think it does. As a young fan myself, I kinda feel Cutler is the Benchmark now, Orton beats him and I'm more than happy. There's probably never going to be another Elway, but there will be dozens of starters better than #6.

There was already a thread on this same thing. I don't see how Cutler can be the benchmark as he never really did anything to be a benchmark, only in people's perceptions. No, I don't believe we'll hold Orton or Simms up to Elway but we want someone we can be confident in when he walks on the field. I wasn't there yet with Cutler.

Some are warped into thinking because Elway had a strong arm, the Broncos need a strong-armed QB to win. No they don't.

Im not saying Cutler was anywhere near, but saying that if we get a QB the same or Equal to Cutler, I'm very happy, plus that means we owned the deal.

Well, we didn't get a QB "at the same level as Cutler." If that is your only metric (and it really is to me, unfortunately), then we failed. We were destined to fail.

Until a QB wins thee Super Bowls Elway is the benchmark. How can you compare winless Cultler ( no playoffs or SB's) to Elway.

Cutler's arm with a better attitude would be great. At this point, I want someone who will do whatever it takes to win.

Well you were probably not confident b/c you knew deep down our Defense would stink up the joint.

I'd like to see either Orton or Simms play with the same porous Defense Cutler had over the last two years. Then we could really do some fair judging----couldn't we!!! Yep lets see how serviceable Orton or Simms will be having to score 35 points a game or more to keep the Roman Coliseum Denver fan base happy and content.

Remember, Cutler was 13-2 when the Defense held teams to 21-24 points or less.

I wasn't aware of any 'stigma' surrounding Elway or his play here.

I think the "next Elway" crap has died off a little, not gone, just eased!

It's been a tough few years for Denver, but that's how it goes, I think of it as the "HOF QB vacuum effect" - EVERY team with a 1st ballot HOF QB goes through some tough/losing seasons after they retire!
Cowboys, Niners, Dolphins, Denver - there have been some LEAN years and MINIMAL playoff wins there.

Chill dude, you guys have been doing way too much hating on either Cutler or McDaniels. No, I was not confident because Cutler, on occassion, would fold under pressure. I'm very sure a lot of that was due to the defense. That's not to say I didn't have high hopes for the guy or admire what he did do right. I just did not have the confidence in him yet when he walked on the field, to take the game back and bring the team back.

We don't need a great QB to win super bowls, but we need one for me to enjoy watching the game.

The "we need another Elway to win the superbowl" crowd was satisfied with watching Jay develop and hoping that he became something special.

Now that we have a Griese/Plummer hybrid under center, you can rest assured that its only a matter of time before they get the stones out to pelt Orton.

I just cant wait for the first gossip girl column expose on Orton! Oh boy!

not really. Every week its gonna be "Orton did this with this great offense, Cutler did this with a terrible offense...blah blah blah." And Cutler is a better quarterback than anything we will be able to trot out next year.
