Default Is This the Worst Broncos Offseason in Awhile?

The recipe for a crappy offseason:

The season ended with a monumentual flop in the late-season collapse that took the Broncos from the playoffs to the crapper.

The defense was so bad that it basically needs an overhaul.

The franchise stalwart and beloved head coach Shanahan was fired.

Shanahan was replaced by a young guy who immediately came in and began in-fighting with the franchise QB because of some mistakes that the young BBT made in player management.

Now, the franchise QB in what was possibly going to be one of the greatest Bronco offenses of all time is unhappy and may force a trade.

To date the Broncos have signed only one player that should help the defense in Dawkins.

Ugh.

The worst? Hell, this is the best. Usually, this time of year I'm bored to tears waiting for the draft. Of course, I hate BBall. Especially the Mavs, who totally suck, so there's nothing really to watch.

Depends on your point of view. For the most part, the fan base seems split between those who think it's the worst offseason ever and some that think it's great.

The sad thing is that you neglgected to even mention that the Broncos' star receiver took yet another step toward flushing it all down the toilet.

Since DWill on NYE, this franchise has been more surreal than real.

To me this is the most exciting and interesting off-season in over a decade. Better than hearing Slowic is the new DC and Marquand Manual is our starting safety.

I don't know if all this noise will make for a better team, but it makes for a hell of a lot better offseason.

IMO it started with Bubby and Griese...1999

2001...Shanny almost leaves broncos for the Gators

2002 Griese 'falls down' TD's driveway and is 'rescued' by Trevor Pryce riese gets canned

2003 plummer is signed...colts kill broncos in the playoffs

2004 colts kill broncos in the playoffs....CP traded for Champ bailey

2005...shanny kind of on the hot seat...broncos host afc champ game

2006...draft Cutler, plummer cries about it, benched traided, retires...pryce anderson released

Amen Rohirrim, normally I'm snoozing away this time of year waiting for the draft at best! This is some excitement at least and could well be the kind of clear the deck blow out this team and city needed to get this boat in the right direction again.

Maybe Cutler will come around yet. If not he wasn't THE GUY anyway and the sooner we start grooming someone else the better.

Besides, McD turned a guy who had not started a single game since HIGH School into a QB who won 11 games (including laying 41 points on US while Cutler laid an egg!) and Cassel's only really got going AFTER the season started!

McD needs a reliable smart QB with an accurate and decent powered but not rocket arm. Cutler has a freak arm but he doesn't always make good decisions with it and is not so accurate at times either.

I still think IF Cutler will buckle down and except that he is the employee here and works hard, McD could transform him into an elite QB .. in that respect Cutler needs McD far more than McD needs Cutler.

I suspect McD is fairly confident that before long he can craft another winning QB to fit his system, and/or find the right prospect soon to work with should Cutler screw this whole thing up and blow his way out of town.

I agree, except for March Madness (can I say that without violating copyright laws?). NBA, NHL, NASCAR and MLB all bore me.

Agree.... this off-season kicks ass. Fresh leadership for the franchise, a high-quality vet signed to help lead (and form) the new defense... a quality defensive coordinator with a ton of experience... some interesting role-players signed, and some great players returning.

That, and a coach who, like Shanahan, was groomed in a system where winning was the culture.

I love it. Our bratty QB locking himself in his room isn't bothering me at all.
He'll have a good cry and then we'll all get back to work.

Its not bad as far as offseasons go. No matter how "bad" this gets, we wont ever match Dallas for drama queen of the year award.
