I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Had they kept Asante Samuel, they most definitely would've made another run at the SB. Their defense missed him BADLY last season.

With all the uproar over the McD/Cutler situation this thread points out something I hope McDaniels does bring with him. The Patriots do a fabulous job of getting guys to play up to their potential and when they leave the Patriots still reap benefits.

I think we should trade Cutler to New England for thier 1st round and this 3rd round compensatory pick.

Wow, SD to only get a 4th for losing Turner.

I'm going to be surprised if it's not a third. (He does say possibly a third).

I can't imagine getting a fourth for Drayton Florence though. He was a huge bust in Jacksonville and is already gone there. I would think more like a sixth or seventh round pick for him.

Who did SD pick up in FA last year? That could have something to do with the 4th rounder vs. a 3rd.

It's all part of some secret equation. A lot of those guys didn't make any impact, but the size of their contract figures into the equation.

From past years, its clear that the size of the contract is the primary component in the equation. Pro Bowl, etc, is secondary.

Well, Turner signed a pretty nice contract and performed well last year. That has 3rd round pick written all over it to me.

And the question was asked if SD signed any free agents last year and the answer is no. They signed a couple of guys who were cut (LJ Shelton and Newberry and a couple of other nobodies) but that was it.
